NECROPOST ftw

you do not have the rights to place the song in your mod even if you did buy the CD. However, you can search for "creative commons" licensed music, which is totally free and allowed to be distributed with credit given to the artist. For example, Nine Inch Nails' "Ghosts" is CC'd for public use, as long as you credit them.

Another good place to look for CC'd music is Dark Duck.

Be careful about CC-licensed work and the "Share-Alike" clause. I've found that different people have different interpretations for the word "derivative". If you're not careful, you may end up in a situation where the author of the music wants you to CC-license your ENTIRE game in order to use their music. It's best to email the author and ask for their exact terms.
