Ambient_Generic plays too far

Postby tron00 on Sat Oct 24, 2009 2:12 am

I've created an Ambient_Generic and set the Max Audible Distance to 80. The bubble in Hammer looking at the speaker is very small. Plays Everywhere is not checked. But, I can hear the sound way past that. I have an elevator earby and it finally goes away when I go up, but I can hear it again when I come down. The overhead 2d view shows the radius nowhere near being able to reach the elevator. Any ideas? Thanks.

That's not the real distance that is were the sound will be heard the loudest. Just make the bubble really small.

depending on what the sound is, why don't you just use a soundscape?

If you want a wall to block the sound and it's environmental, odds are what you really want is some form of soundscape instead. Some details in this thread.

The sound is FuelTruck.Engage. Can I turn that into a Soundscape? Thanks for the help.

Wow. That was an awesome explanantion! I've been looking at them by tearing apart the Valve L4D maps and saw the Soundscapes being used with the Info_targets. I've been wondering what the hell that was about. Thanks!
