I am trying to make a custom sprite. When I assign the material I made for it to an env_sprite it shows up fine in hammer, but in hl2 it isn't there! When I just use the ones that are already in hl2 it works fine...

Any idea what I do wrong?

Well this is a bit of a late reply, but I thought I'd post it here cause Google brought this up in a search...

The material needs to have to correct settings in the VMT file...

"Sprite"
{
   "$spriteorientation" "vp_parallel"
   "$spriteorigin" "[ 0 0 0 ]"
   "$baseTexture" "sprites/texturename"
   "$additive" "1"   
   
}


And you should place both the VTF and VMT in your sprites/ folder.

Is it possible to use the sprite shader for models? I'd like to make bush models using it, it would be much cheaper than a vertexlitgeneric with $nocull...

I've had sprite materials/shaders on brushes before. I think.
