Maya Personal Learning Edition

Postby SoMeOnE_the_oDD on Wed Oct 24, 2007 5:03 pm

I just found a version of Autodesk Maya (really good 3D program) that is free and designed for people wanting to learn to use the program. It is their personal learning edition. It doesn't have a trial period as far as I can tell but it is a pretty big download over the internet (at least with my slow internet). I thought some of the modelers or future modelers may want to check it out. It is Windows and Mac compatible. It has simple tutorials and there are many more at the site.

If you do get it, make sure you write down the registration number or you will have to fill out the form again to get another.

It's not really news as it's been around for ages and I know several people on the forums use it already.

Having said that it's a very good piece of software to learn with and there are bound to be people here who don't know about it.

Moving to modelling.

thing is, you can't export anything in the ple version, so it's useless.

unless you're using it to make models for ut2k4. then it's quite nice indeed :]

I thought you could export things like obj files, the only downside to the PLE was watermarks on the renders, unless that got changed with the new 8.0 PLE

Its my understanding that the PLE only saves files as a unique PLE format. So the files only work in the PLE version, and theres the watermark, and restriction on resolution.
