V weapon model messed up

Postby L_Snake2001 on Fri Feb 22, 2008 3:10 pm

This how my model (based on the crowbar_reference.smd) looks in Max, it compiles with no errors:

However, this is how it looks in the HL model viewer:

As you can see the bones appear to be in a totally off position and all but a couple small chunks of the model are actually lining up with it.

Anyone got ideas? I'm assuming it's something wrong in the .qc file?

ha, same thing happened to me,
I basically made SURE that the animations were on the exact same rig as the reference animation and it fixed it, In my case it required reanimating, but ah well. You can also try freezing all transforms and positions on each bone, but I don't think that's what fixed my problem because i wasn't able to do it to all my bones without messing something up.

(I think freezing is called Xform or something in MAX and I'm not sure what the bone equivalent is called, so I can't help you with exact terms.)

Thanks for the reply, I'll have to play around with the SMD to see whats causing it to happen. I tried exporting the crowbar_ref.smd with the crowbar deleted and it didn't like that so must be something related.

also, don't check any of the optimizing or bone remover check boxes for the SMD's. re-export all of them with the options unchecked, i think that's what actually fixed it for me.

It doesn't matter if he's got the entire rig in there. It only uses the bones that are connected to the hand.

Not 100% sure, as I've only exported a model once and it worked fine, but it looks like your setup isn't aligned to the world inside max. Make sure it is, or when you export, make sure you tell it to use the model's origin as the world origin (its an option with WallWormTools).
