Wait, do you want a real-time reflective puddle? I have yet to do it and I really wouldn't be able to make an example today(maybe late tonight or tomorrow). I assume, you could just use a func_reflective_glass. It would reflect everything and would be higher resolution then crappy old cubemaps.

Sorry if I am wrong and wasted your time, I just sorta skimmed through this topic.

Hi Gary,
creating this kind of puddle would be awesome.
But with this approach the only cons is that there can be just one puddle per PVS. Also in my map there are 3 mirrors and with another func_reflective_glass I will go crazy trying to isolate them in a single PVS.

The code I used is this:
Code: Select all
"Lightmappedgeneric"
{
   "$basetexture" "cs_newoffice/asfalto"
   "$bumpmap" "cs_newoffice/asfalto_corner_normal"
   "$envmap" "env_cubemap"
   "$normalmapalphaenvmapmask" "1"
}

I promise to put some screenshot: here they are.

To make this I subdivided normalmap into several textures applied to 128x128 brushes instead of creating a very big texture (like 2048x2048).
Base texture aligns perfectly while normal not at all (areas not perfectly aligned are marked with red arrows):

this can be some noob error and I am not sure how to fix it. Any suggestion?

seamless texture the normal?

Though from the looks of it it's just slightly offset, reverse-offset it a bit in the other direction it's poorly tiled in (in a phoro editor like Paint.net) and then see if that works.
