Aww more problems, models

Postby JustGam3r on Tue Oct 26, 2010 10:02 pm

Now I am using HL2:DM mod and I decided to give adding custom models a go.

I am at the mod/scripts/weapon_ump.txt

here what it says:

// Small Machine Gun 1

WeaponData
{
// Weapon data is loaded by both the Game and Client DLLs.
"printname" "#HL2_SMG1"
"viewmodel" "models/weapons/v_smg1.mdl"
"playermodel" "models/weapons/w_smg1.mdl" //FIXME:
"anim_prefix" "smg2"
"bucket" "2"
"bucket_position" "0"

"clip_size" "30"
"clip2_size" "-1"

"default_clip" "30"
"default_clip2" "-1"

"primary_ammo" "SMG1"
"secondary_ammo" "SMG1_Grenade"

"weight" "3"
"item_flags" "0"
"damage" "5"

// Sounds for the weapon. There is a max of 16 sounds per category (i.e. max 16 "single_shot" sounds)
SoundData
{
"reload" "Weapon_SMG1.Reload"
"reload_npc" "Weapon_SMG1.NPC_Reload"
"empty" "Weapon_SMG1.Empty"
"single_shot" "Weapon_SMG1.Single"
"single_shot_npc" "Weapon_SMG1.NPC_Single"
"special1" "Weapon_SMG1.Special1"
"special2" "Weapon_SMG1.Special2"
"double_shot" "Weapon_SMG1.Double"
"burst" "Weapon_SMG1.Burst"
}

// Weapon Sprite data is loaded by the Client DLL.
TextureData
{
"weapon"
{
"font" "WeaponIcons"
"character" "a"
}
"weapon_s"
{
"font" "WeaponIconsSelected"
"character" "a"
}
"ammo"
{
"font" "WeaponIcons"
"character" "r"
}
"ammo2"
{
"font" "WeaponIcons"
"character" "t"
}
"crosshair"
{
"font" "Crosshairs"
"character" "Q"
}
"autoaim"
{
"file" "sprites/crosshairs"
"x" "0"
"y" "48"
"width" "24"
"height" "24"
}
}
}

Now my problem is that I dont understand where does it locate the original gun from. I can read but I dont get where is the original folder, I would rather prefer if it was like that.

You can overwrite it by placing a new one in the same folder relative to your mod directory like you thought, <mod>/models/etc.

Default content is read from gcf or vpk files depending on your game, in your case gcf, which are like zip files. You need a program called gcfscape to explore them, and they are located in your steamapps directory.

I got GCFScape, but I dont see how would that solve the problem. In that GCFScape I located the file, but is it where it is going?

I thought it relates with this. More questions than answers.

EDIT: Im starting to get it, if I wont have an original file in a right place which would be determined by an example ("models/weapons/v_smg1.mdl"), which dont actually excist in my SourceMods/mod/weapons/ect... And if there isnt such thing it looks back at the original game (HL2DM) to look in its "models/weapons/v_smg1.mdl" and it finds it. And I right?

Ok, um, I think what you said is that

"If I have a file in SourceMods/mod/models/weapons/etc. with the same name will it overwrite the original in the GCF?"

in which case the answer is yes

sorry but I don't have any experience replacing viewmodels. You should post the error.
