adjusting UV coordinates for multiple skins

Postby Stormy on Thu Jul 21, 2011 7:11 am

I am making a bunch of grass sprites which all use the same dif image. The image is arranged in a grid and each model is just a quad with different UV coords. At the moment I have 18 different models all using the same material, and my model selection screen is understanably cluttered. The other option is to use skinfamilies but then I'd have a mess of vmt files. Is there a way to compress all of these files by defining coords for each skin? That would allow me to have one model and one vmt, which would be ideal.

I'd also like to make them face the player, using the sprite shader or something similar.

Any thoughts?

Why don't you use detail props?

Hey thanks for the link, that might be the way I go. By the look of that page you can define uv coordinates in the sprite shader...

Yep, detail sprites (no need to use models for this) were specifically design to solve this problem.
