Wooden crate-texture "bulletproofer"?

Postby poLemin on Sat May 05, 2012 12:15 pm

Hey guys!

I was on the search for about an hour so I'll try to get the answer here. I am currently working on a CS:S-Map where I created a custom wooden crate-texture and used it. In balance-tests many people complained about the crates being too "penetrateable". What do I have to do in order to reduce (but not nullify) the damage of bullets shot through this material?

Thanks in advance!
Cheers, poLemin

You mean like surrounding the box with a 1unit thin tool-texture? As far as I am informed, blockbullets completely nullifys incoming damage, which I do not want. Tell me if I'm wrong

Pretty sure it's controlled by the material. Look for the stock wooden crate textures and check what their material type is set to. It could be Wood_solid or something like that.

It doesn't, but you can use another material instead (v.g nodraw). Make it as thick as you want (more thick=less penetrable) and put it inside the model, so the wood sound appears. If it changes the illumination of the model you can use an Info_light (Check it as I'm writing from memory).

Is this a brush based crate or a model? It's very simple to do if it's a model.
