Propper Texturing Issues

Postby Minor_Threat on Fri Dec 28, 2012 8:44 am

Hi there,

I recently attempted to make some custom props with Propper on SDK '07. Whilst both the bump map ".vtf" file and the "$envmaptint" reflective properties appear fine on the brush model I made, after compiling it all with Propper the resulting prop seems to have discarded both of these additions. Is there any way of creating shiny and/or bump mapped models with Propper? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Propper creates a bare-bones .vmt for its models. Just find the .vmt it created and add the bump map and cubemap parameters yourself.

Hi again,

I searched the folder that I created the prop in, and can't find a ".vmt" file. As far as I can tell, each prop I have created has come in the form of 6 files, but no ".vmt" file;

<prop>.mdl
<prop>.phy
<prop>.vvd
<prop>.sw.vtx
<prop>.dx80.vtx
<prop>.dx90.vtx

I also tried searching the root folder for my mod in case it had been compiled elsewhere, but no sign of it.

The vmt is placed in the directory that is specified in the "material path" field in the propper_model entity (or info_prop_options if you're using the old version of propper). So if the material path says, for example, "mymod/models", you'll find the vmt in materials/mymod/models. The vmt will have the same name as the texture used on the brushes.

BTW Propper does export shader parameters. It´s just that sometimes those are incompatible with vertexlitgeneric.

I see. From what I could tell, when I compiled the models, everything would work fine, except for the bump maps and the envmaptint functions which had removed themselves from the vmt files in the model materials. It was just a matter of adding them to the vmt files again.
