Reskinning models in CS:GO need help

I want to change the skin of the flag model in CS:GO but I don't know how to. In CS:S you'd simply put the modified texture in the proper directory and it would work, but in CS:GO it doesn't. Anyone know how to do it properly?

My guess is it's because CS:GO loads from .vpk files. You'd have to drop it into one of the .vpk files with GCFScape. The better option would be to duplicate the model with a different name and reskin it that way.

Is making a duplicate and renaming as simple as duplicating and renaming, or does Source make it difficult?

I'm not 100% certain, but try pakrat/bspziping the reskin into your bsp, that's what you have to do with custom sound files.

I believe you have to make a "custom" folder in the csgo folder or whatever and put your custom materials and models and sounds in there. So it should be like "csgo/custom/materials/etc." for example. That's how you have to do reskins for HL2 and whatnot after they were moved to the new file system and such.
