Custom Decal Transparency not showing up in editor

Postby v0rt3x on Sun Feb 02, 2014 8:15 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with my custom decals I made.
I made them a long time ago and I believe I made them with tools from Nemesis - but I'm not exactly sure.

Long story short - if you take a look at the screenshot - all of the decals have transparency added, which works fine in 3D view, but when I browse them in the editor, they all have a black bar in front of them, which makes it impossible for me to really browse them.

I also added vmt information (I was wondering if there might be an error here).

Does anyone know how I can make the decals show up properly in the texture browser?

Kind Regards

Not possible, look at the default decals, they just have a different background color to make the decal show in hammer

I'm not sure what you're saying.

The problem with my decals is that the background color is white?

How would a different background color eliminate the black foreground in the texture browser that's covering virtually all my decals?

I found a tutorial on custom decals that said:

"VTFEdit and Hammer's Material Browser both render the Transparent background as black. This is normal, so don't freak out, you did not mess up."

Is this still true? (The tut is from 2 years ago).

Is there no way around this?
