Dudv tutorial?

Postby ferret on Mon Aug 29, 2005 12:22 am

Anyone know any tutorials to help me make some dudv textures? I want to make some stainedglass and waterfall textures, but I have no clue how to make the dudv things that control light refraction.

Is it possible? or does it require some plugin like the normal map plugin?

Here's an example of what I mean:

Thanks in advance

I've used VTFEdit to make DuDv maps, however , I can't seem to figure out how to get it to work in-game. If I can get it to work i'll write a tutorial.

Oh now I feel stupid
I just saw Valve's quick and dirty tutorial in the developer community.
And I just used a normal map from this texture that already had a Du/Dv to test out the method. The method wasn't very good, but I tweaked it a bit and I got great results:

Get the nvidia plugin for photo shop, after you make it a normal map then DUDV it.

we use that alot in nightfall. I keep telling kremator to write a tutorial about it, but he doesnt listen to me :P just send him a pm or email, and he might help you out.

For wath i understand for making it work, you need the color map, and the dudv map wich should be inside the shaders folder, then you need to make a brush sandwiche:

color map tied to a func_brush | dudv as a world brush | color map again tied as a func_brush

thats all i know :P lo0l
