Yeah theres also an EA in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. They aren't actually owned by EA but they produce titles for them, mostly low brow sports games like Rugby and the like.

They were in Lunenberg, now they moved to a nice part of Halifax.

Does anyone have any information on applying for/obtaining work visas to work abroad? Does it require working in the industry in your home country for a few years first?

Check your countries / desired destination countries government site, they'll have all specifications you'll need. though I'm pretty sure you just need to get the job before you can get one, thats all. Example if I wanted to move to the states I just need a letter saying I have the job to mail in with my photo ID and forms.

Pretty sure how thats how it works, but check some government sites first I guess.

hahaha, my 12th grade English teacher poped in to see me at work about an hour after I posted this, we got to talking about the information technology scene and it turns out that his niece is married to the owner of HB Studios, small world after all :)

Anywhere in Europe and you're pretty much fine.
USA slightly more challenging.

Not that I can confidently offer advise past that on either of those. :-)

Is there a post on this forum which highlights the main things/skills a game studio looks at in an applicant's resume before taking anyone for the internship?

I made a post aimed at programmers looking to get their foot in the door. As for other positions, no posts that I know of. Would be nice if someone made them though ;) (looks at vivi).

Yeah just noticed Free Radical are about 5 miles from my house in Nottingham, im thinking of getting into the industry after I finish my CS BSc, already been to the Frontier open day last year 1 of 3 out of 28 that applied and got invited to come for the design part, gunna apply again this year to show im still interested in a possible job at the end of the year and to gain some extra knowledge of the industry and how the role works.

Anyway back on topic. Anyone think I should write to Free Radical and send a little portfolio asking for an invite to come see the business or perhaps get a job as a in house tester. They are my favourite PS2 developer after all. Timesplitters <3

It would seem that most of the studios (in the UK at least) are either no longer open or aren't offering internship any more. I'm going to contact a few companies to double check (I want some work experience) I'll be updating this page accordingly.

To my knowledge Double-Six have taken on animation interns within the last year, not sure about other studios. Might be worth shooting them an email Ash!

I think it's ironic that a German company makes Crysis, a fairly violent game, but Germany has some of the strictest censorship laws

You should remove Free Radical from the list and add EA UK aka Brightlight studios.

Also just so any UKers know I think Rare are hiring atm, they told me they would contact me soon about an interview, already got a job though, so anyone looking nows ur chance.
