If you want to elaborate then feel free, but I've spent literally months researching this stuff ... pretty sure you're wrong ;) In fairness I suppose I haven't really looked at greek architecture the same, and definitely the cylindrical pillars ontop of rectangular bases are not classical roman - however you do what you must with this stuff. It has to serve your purposes.

Especially the older Greek pillar caps are very simple, a single cylinder or very simple shapes while Roman pillar caps are usually very elaborate and detailed.

Then again if you were to shoot for architectural and historical correctness you should write a book about historical architecture, not a game.

Or you could write a wikipedia article!
Oh wait, someone did...to me your capitals look 'tuscan' which is "a roman adaptation of the doric order"

The columns are an adaption of both the Doric and Ionic styles. The more elaborate intricately detailed stuff that Z@C is talking about came much later in Roman history, namely the Corinthian and to a lesser degree, Ionic orders. If you look it up, the bottom detail of the pillars is straight ripped from the Ionic style, and the top straight ripped from the Doric. I really did research this stuff guys :p

My mind feels so inferior after reading all your posts.

It sounds really interesting, and looks interesting for that matter.

So, some small update. Its been a while since I posted, but we've been looking for a dedicated programmer for a while now, and we've found one. Literally only one person contacted us, but he happened to be a professional systems engineer at an EA studio in Canada so ... pretty lucky! That really hit home to me how difficult it is to find programmers at all online, considering that our entire team are pretty much industry pro's and we only received one single email!

We've also received some other interest, and that has resulted in us bringing onboard David, who is an Environment Concept Artist at an independent UK studio. :) We're still getting everyone up to speed, but already excited about the early stuff being churned out!

Regarding the actual game, we're still making baby steps - things should step up a notch soon though now we have a dedicated programmer. I've been working on the basis of our art pipeline (creating shaders and master materials in UDK, deciding on methods to implement certain things etc), whilst Brady has been working on some early UI and level floorplans. We've also been continuing to work on aspects of the game design, world design and character designs. Hopefully we'll have some more concepts to show off soon regarding that stuff, but for the moment we're mostly concerned with getting our playtest framework in place.

If I'd have known about this programmer opportunity I'd have grabbed it a month ago. I literally just started as an engine programmer on a new game project, too. Creating the engine from scratch, so a bit further behind than you.

Either way, good luck with the game!

We're looking at taking on a dedicated designer (game design, level design) and a 3d artist. Send replies on a postcard to mark@marksneddon.net
