Adventure time...

Would it be possible by using the standard I/O system to create an adventure type game with hammer? I would like to include dialogue choices and item usage but nothing more complex. Essential it would be a fairly standard adventure without any bells and whistles.

Other than that, I'd advice you to dive into the source sdk wiki and start learning about the different entities. It's quite a powerful system.

Follow the tutorial in the post above you? That and a few tricks here and there with the game_ui should make it work.
