The gimp is a good free version. It's very similar to Photoshop, but it's free. It's a little challenging to install, because you have to install the GTK runtime enviornment, that's because it was originally made for linux.

hey shred try and add some shadows . Look at reference shots if your not sure about somthing .

example Image

or you can learn to normal map and make some normal maps for your flags. then all you really need is a nice color and the normal map will do the rest. ^_^

Shred: Add noise to your picture. After that, use and alpha layer so you can create a thin black layer around the edge of the flags and decrease the opacity.

Revision3.org has a show about photoshop and has some decent video tutorials. The guy also has a sweet Touch Pad to move his mouse.

How do most of you go around doing normal maps? I usually just do the Photoshop normal map plugin with a little hand editing. Then, depending on what I'm doing, I'll do the alpha spectral map thingy.

Part of my texture set for my de_stadium remake. Valve's vanilla textures are all well and good but they're too dirty, I want to convey the stadium as being old, but not abandoned.

@wiggle- its looking a bit too white? i think is the word im looking for . Also if its for an abandoned area i would add lots of grundge and dirt to it to make it look a bit more destroyed.

I don't want it to look abandoned, it doesn't look to bad ingame, goes nicely with the green tile floor from the stock textures, but now i'm having getting the normal map to work, it seems to be getting the specular fine but the normal map isn't working -.-'
