metal looks like a good start, especially from scratch.
except you blurred it, which is silly. It's not easy at ALL to make textures from scratch, unless it's something along the lines of the P2 stuff (simple, clean).

I blurred it because straight, perfect lines look terrible. That and I scaled it down which further blurred it. Also helped with making the shadows. Luckily it's still a PDN file so I can unblur specfic parts, what do you think needs unblurring?

I think I could improve it alot, maybe add rust and some scratches here and there. I wanna be able to make from scratch, that way I can make whatever I need on the fly. I have normal maps for them too, but those won't work without cubemaps, so I can't tell if they're good or not, as cubemaps still don't work for me. :?

Seriously every post you make seems to be not thoughtout at all.

Releasing textures are higher res then what you use it as means people who might want them at that res can have them and use them for renders and other things whilst other people can easily re-size them.

I think since it's metal you want to give it a hard, metalic look :P it's REALLY blurry right now, I think the whole thing should just be sharp.

If you think that the straight, perfect lines look terrible, don't draw it with straight, perfect lines ;)

Ok here's the revised one, all I did was add rust:

Image

This is a texture i've been working on today, looks way better than the one above:
Normal (it's a bit bland, iIcouldn't get any scratches to look right, any tips on how to do that in paint. net of GIMP would be helpful.)

Rusted

My fav so far, this:

It's meant to be tiled but tiled looks a bit weird:

hey wiffen, I did a quick draw over on all the areas where i saw seams, these were the areas i felt that still needed to blend better in your textures.

Photorealistic textures are awesome. It was a pain to get it seamless without screwing up the colors but I managed to do it. I liked the result at least. I made a normal map but I don't really think it's good.

hey nub how did you make it seamless,
I saw this video tut a while back how you can easily make stuff like rocks seamless by making a copy of the layer
offsetting the first layer and add a mask to the second layer

that way you can easily paint the seams out of the texture

God I'm tired, 9:20 and I haven't slept to fix my sleep. Heres a guide I made just for you source. I'm slightly incoherent though.

Basically what you mentioned using the offset tool is one of the better ways. Using the quick selection tool you only select around the edges of details, so when you offset the image inside the seams it blends into those edges seamlessly. However you need a texture with even lighting/clarity for the effect to work properly like VIVI has pointed out. Since not all of my pictures were taken from an evenly lit area and a cameras lens has flaws you can see some of the darker areas of the picture clash against lighter areas. The texture itself is seamless but the uneven lighting will contrast and give you the striped effect.

FML! I wrote the steps on the wrong images! All steps are applied to the NEXT picture in sequence.

^ I guess I forgot to write anything on this one, but from that crop try to fix any remaining distortion. (Vignetting, chromatic abrasion, remove trash or unwanted parts using quick selection + content aware fill. Or using the healing brush. Barrel distortion.)

yess I know :D , but the thing I explained above it really handy for rocks and stuff

edit: this is what I mean, it only took me 2 min, imagine what you can do when you take the time for it

you copy your layer, and offset the first
Image

add a mask to the layer copy, and paint away the seams, really handy :)

Eh, we've both done the same thing, just two different ways of doing it :)

Masks and layers vs selecting and offsetting

I know but, in 'my' method you don't destroy the texture because you are just painting on a mask

'your' method destroys the texture, I know you could just copy the layer but in my way you can go back to any state the texture was in because you don't destroy it (kinda hard to explain)

New stuff:

Rusted Metal Wall (My personal favorite, I love how the rust came out. Haven't tiled it yet, will probably be hard to do:)

Wood with a Metal Frame:

Plain Lighted Metal Wall:

All of these from scratch, no refrence pics.
