Well I think I may have made some red pile of shit that may do something... But the render window doesn't work or I don't know how to work it or my particle system is just retarded and doesn't work. I hope someone makes a useful tutorial, that video on Facepunch somehow showed up as a music file with no sound in my Windows Media Player

omfg... Make a tutorial!!! I still can't even find out how to get anything to show up. There isn't even a list of EP2 particles in there! I made the manifest and everything, still nothing! It is quite shitty...

And that smiley face blood... It rapes, that would be fun to put in a DM mod of some type.

I believe the smiley one was just a replacement of the blood, you can probably modify it by opening the original PCF for the blood effect and choosing different materials/tweaking.

And btw Zipfinator, particles wont show up until you set their lifetime to more than zero.

Did anyone want a tutorial? I made one. Late at night. On a slow connection. You better thank me for this. :-D

Open up particle editor
click file>new
Image

click "create" and name it whatever.
Image

Click on those three little dots ...
Image

Choose any sprites or texture you want, but for tutorials sake I'm using this smoke sprite.
Image

Go to the dropdown menu to the left, change it to "renderer" then right click in the empty area and click "add"
Image

Click Render_animated_sprites, then click "open"
Image

Change the dropdown menu to "emmiter" add the value "emit continuosley"
Image

Notice there is a puff-o-smoke. Be happy, I know i am.
Image

Change the dropdown menu to "initializer" and add the value "Position within sphere random"
Image

Change the value of "distance_max" to 100, notice that our lil' furries have multiplied.
Image

Change the dropdown menu to "operator" add the value "movement basic"
Image

Change the value of "gravity" to "0 0 -60" notice our furries now float.
Image

Change the dropdown menu to "properties" and change the value of "max_paricles" to "100" notice we have less furries, but the float more fluidly
Image

At this point we find, that there is nothing wrong with plain white furries, but the've became slightly monotonous and drab. lets add color.

Change the dropdown menu to "Initializer" again and add the property "Color Random"
Image

Change the values of "color 1" and "color 2" to anything you want. be amazed at your beautiful floating furries.
Image

Finnally, save your creation as something apropriate.
Image

I hope this has given you a better look at the basics of particle editor, I hope this inspires people to do diffrent things and push the limits. If this was helpful please give me alot of money. I appolugise 4 mispel'd woreds et es lait hear.

Thanks a lot! I did pretty much adding all of the operators and such and changing the values, I just never chose a sprite... I thought I missed an important step somewhere, but I never saw any spot that would let me choose a sprite. I'll check it out and post a pic of something if it turns out well!

Thanks again!

Yeah, it really helps when you look around in the valve example files and see what each option does when you add/change/delete them.

Once you find out wtf your doing it is actually pretty easy. I made a nice snow effect, the only thing wrong is that I can't find out how to make them fade... Everything has a fade in/out option in operators and renderers and everything!!! I tried all of them and nothing, so once the snow falls to over 5k particles it stops :(

And where are the example files? I haven't seen any yet...

Is there anything tied to that? I've been messing around with those and cull random and the other things that should make them fade after a certain amount of time, but none of them will work the way I want them to.
