Maya Back to normal selection!?

Dear fellow maya users,

I have a problem where if i try to select any type of vertex, edge, face etc. The selection looks like this.

I apparently stupidly hit something I shouldn't have and i can't figure out how to get back to the normal vertex, edge, etc selection mode like this.

Looks like you got soft-selection on, you can disable it by double clicking the selection tool and a tool option menu should pop up on the right. Just untick the box and you should be good.

Autodesk decided to give soft selection the stupidest hotkey to soft selection in 3Ds Max (and assumedly maya).

Ctrl+S should always save, not change to soft selection when you're editing a poly. Always annoying when I re-install and forget to change it.

Ctrl+S has always saved in max for me, in every version. The fact that it doesnt in maya probably means someone got fired lol

Yeah in max 2011, if you're in edit poly mode ctrl+s defaults to soft selection, and considering I hit ctrl+s like a crack addict it got annoying.

That would explain why I've never run into it - I only use max2010. I can see that getting pretty annoying. Why can't they just leave stuff alone :|

I tested this out this evening. CTR+S does indeed save your file if you are in any level of an Editable Poly as you'd expect in Max 2011. It's when you are in the Edit Poly Modifier that it turns on/off soft selection--and then only if the Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle is On.
