[Paid] Player Model Request

Postby ChickenMobile on Thu Nov 15, 2012 1:00 am

Hello to all that read this!
I am looking for a modeller to make a custom (human) player model for both me and the community to use.
Money is on the agenda! I will pay $100+ for the completed asset (depending on what we agree on).

Conditions:
The player model must work in Portal 2
The player model must work in Garry's Mod (as both a player model and working ragdoll)
The player model must work in the Source Filmaker
You must agree that anyone can use the model - creative licenses & ownership still apply.

If you believe you can do this and want to hop on the project, PM me on ThinkingWithPortals or email me at chickenmobile(at)hotmail(dot)com.
Do not PM me on interlopers (I wont notice it).

EDIT: Reusing models are fine. I just need a custom face and skin for the model - and the rig.

When you find a modeler that will model, rig and animate for $20-$50 send them my way after you are done with them please!

Yeah there's no way you'll get anyone decent for that sort of price. High quality static models can go for ~$200+ and they don't require any rigging.

Add a 0 to that offer and you might be able to find someone.

What you're asking for is one of the most complex and time consuming things you can do even without custom animations.

If you want a pro, pay for a pro.

Good to know...
So you can't decompile animations and other player models and just do a little touching up?

If anyone is willing to make it for me, send me a message. What I'm paying is completely negotiable, (though I am a poor student with a part-time job who also pays for my own food and rent).

I know that black_stormy doesn't do work on his website anymore, but maybe if you ask nicely you could get him to model it. He also says there are two other modelers there..

Well... in your post above it sounds like you're searching for someone to create a model from scratch, rig it to the HL2 biped and do a few custom animations with it as well.

Depending on how big or small your modifications shall be, it might be a lot less timeconsuming.
But i'm not sure if it is allowed to take money for something that was created by editing someone elses work.

If the author gives permission I believe it would be fine.
I just hoped a good modeller could jump on the band wagon as this certain model has been requested by the community for a while.

It doesn't have to be fancy... only similar :P

Hey Chicken. First of all, thanks for putting a paid modeling offer out to the community.

Unfortunately making a model as detailed and complex as a Portal 2 player model from scratch and rigging it to multiple skeletons takes many many hours. If I paid an artist $500 for something of that quality, I'd feel like I was getting a good deal.

But realistically when I look at your player model, I see Nick's body from L4D2 with a Portal cube strapped on his back. The only part that looks unique is the player's head. You might want to try and find a model compiler/decompiler instead of paying an artist to create it from scratch. There are plenty of people from the Garry's Mod and the FacePunch forums that have lots of experience doing this sort of thing. I believe it violates end-user agreements though, depending on where the source models come from, because in reality you are "reusing" the hard work of previous artists.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look on FacePunch and offer my money to someone who can model a face, can skin a model and output in the right format.

I have absolutely no experience whatsoever in making a model.
