okay, fianlly registered. Love this site, great tuts and cant wait for the site to be back in full force once again.

It's seem like I've been gaming forever and I think I'm onto a new idea for a Mod. very CS like but not. (i'll expain soon) I would love to assemble a team together and see if this can actually get off the ground.

I have a word doc outlining several ideas and things I've thought out as far as gameplay and objectives.

Can someone point me in the right direction. I am a nub when it comes to modding and I'll need all the help i can get.

Thx

Well, hopefully you'll get more than enough help around here :)

First I would post some of the ideas in your word doc up here, so we can see what you have in mind. If people get interested, they'll want to do stuff for you and make your dream a reality :P Good luck

Thx for the quick reply AcX. :smt038

These ideas are not set in stone but I'm getting kinda sick of CS. I feel like it's just not as fun anymore with the basic map objectives they have (i.e. bomb defuseal or hostage rescue) So to I've decided to come up with a modern day cops and robbers type game

i have lots of ideas brewing. I'll document them up as soon as I get a clearer understanding of how this will work.

EDIT: I've taken our the ideas posted as I'm scared someone will steal my mod idea. thx for the advice guys.

it is certainly a good concept, you wont find many coders here though, all we are is a small humble community of mappers, and a splash of modellers who are looking ahead to the impending doom of the mapping realm... *cough* athlete *cough* signy *cough*

anyone know where to find coders at? I'm gonna start drafting up a more solid framework of how the gameplay would work. I.e map and level ideas with sketches.

I've very serious about getting this off the ground so if you have ideas or know anyone that can contribute let me know

thx

u have started with a nice basic concept. I would build on it, get some images and a more "set in stone" plan. Show how the scoring will work, try and get a concept artist to draw stuff up.

I'll get a site up soon. I'm working on setting up a site dedicated to community supported source prefabs for mapper out there but i think i might be able to start another project on the side while that getting there.

I'll work on getting a solid framework together this week outlineing gameplay (i.e. scoring, rounds / matches, weapon buying and such)

thx for your enthusiasm Cyberblast. Hopefully I'll get to the stage were I'll need a team of mappers. When that time comes i will call on you my friend.

until then, i'm gonna start sketching out ideas for maps (mostly taken from buildings and photos from the Washington DC area)

Well if you don't work too fast on it you might count me in as modeller and coder aswell, I ordered a book about C++ and I'm downloading 3D max.
considering the speed I learn.. expect my first model with more than 20 polygons in 2007

My advice:

Setup a real solid Design Doc, detail every main point of the mod, answer any questions that could be asked. Get everything clear from the start.

Get some feedback from places like this, throw around a bit but be careful where you put it, stuff could get stolen.

Set up a site, nothing amazing (unless you are good at that stuff) and get all the main details from the Desgin Doc on the site, get plenty of concept sketches etc on there as well. If you are serious enough the content will be there, and that in turn will attract people that are as serious as you.

Let us know how it goes.

NO! No website, ignore what people are telling you about websites for now. You do not need to concern yourself with websites untill you have media and content that is worth displaying to people. Once you have maps, models, sounds, art, videos, kitchen sinks THEN create your website and pimp it like nuts.

There is no point in having a website when you have nothing to show people. Sure, you could build a website in vain hope of attracting a community with nothing to show them, but there is no point in doing that untill you have done what I mentioned above.

What you want to be cocnentrating on is perfecting your design document as much as possible. Perfect it untill it can be prefecrted no more. Once you have done that begin gathering peoples opinions on your ideas and such, but don't give them everything you have come up with, you don't need to blow it all onb forums and have people steling ideas. Just give them as much as they need to know. Once you've done that go on the prowl for mod develoeprs that will be able to help you. There are always people lurking around forums waiting for intelligent and worthwhile mod leaders to post young mod concepts.

But be sure not to just recruit anyone out of desperation. I cannot stress how many mods I've seen recruit half wit dumbasses and see them produce utter crap for it while being a complete bitch to manage and get content from. So be carefull in who you recruit.

[Edit] Also try to maintain a professional approach to your mod. I mean, not to become elitist towards other people and their mods, but to come across as someone who knows what he's doing and what he wants for his mod, and what he wants his team to produce. To keep them updated on everything that's going on and to keep everyones opinions and such in mind.
