That white you see is the phong. Just a nice little effect to simulate light reflection. A pretty nice graphics card I guess. I use a Radeon X8oo AIW. If you can run HL2 on DX9, you can run this no problems at all.

Isn't Half Life 2 being updated via Steam with all these new effects along with the release of Ep2?

I could have sworn that I read that somewhere.

If you are going all out with this, you might as well add Garfield's updated phong, parallax and refract shaders to the mix :D

http://www.hl2world.com/bbs/free-parall ... 43769.html

http://www.hl2world.com/bbs/betatest-ex ... 46640.html

Adding this stuff to some of valves existing materials etc would be really cool :D

Anyway good luck with the project I will surely be watching this.. do you have a moddb profile?

I think I mentioned that. My source is shaky, read it in a thread on another forum where people post answers to questions they sent to valve. when is, of course, subject to valve-time and IF is subject to, well, valve's collective personality ;)

I will use those shaders, but I am using phongex already so no need for it. And DreaZ, I will take you as a skinner if you are willing too.

google crazybump - make normal maps. higher res does not always equal better quality frankly - just more texture memory needed and adding a normal map for every single high res texture (a normal map that you cannot compress btw) is going to bump up the tex memory needed by a huge amount.

Good luck ;-)

I really like the concept of this mod. I, for one, don't really like replaying Half Life 2 because the textures look worse every time I play it.

However, the biggest problem isn't with the weapon models, rather a large amount of the environment textures. They're beautiful from far away, but up close they start to look hideous.

So, if you are truly planning on making "Half Life 2 High Definition," the best place to start on that would be making the environments look better. Include more sprites and static meshes, but more importantly, get some higher res textures! High Definition means that it requires that extra umph from the user, so push the graphics to the limit.

And also, go for extra content if you can in the end. Add extra sections to maps, just make sure they work of course. Extra weapons, new background menus, ect. Make the game worth replaying, not only for your updated visuals, but for whatever else you've thrown on.

With that said, I'd like to help you in any way I can.

This mod is void. Valve are going to upgrade HL2 very soon.

Indeed,
Rumors on the horizon suggest updated HL2 via Steam within 12 months.
