About the Mod
Recombinant is a mod for Half-Life 2 that I'm working on in my free time. Not only will it be filled with action, but it will also have a detailed and twisting storyline. During the course of development, I would like to introduce a new character and other custom content that will give RC that "new feeling" without making it drastically different from other games in the Half-Life series. You can find more information on the mod's page on ModDB.
So, I'll start off small. For the moment, I will only request one position at a time. Once someone is found, then I will move on to requesting another position (if needed). I would like to keep the team as small as possible, without losing productivity.
The first position I'm recruiting for is: Character Modeler
About this Position
Recombinant will introduce a new character into the Half-Life 2 universe: a woman named Dr. Sarah Bowman. As a Character Modeler you will need to use a Source-compatible modeling package to develop this new character, from either the ground up, or based on the model of another female character such as Alyx or Judith Mossman. Reference shots will be provided upon request and you may take as much time as you need (as long as it is reasonable). In the future, you may be called upon to develop props, but this is certainly not a requirement for the position. The ability to animate your character is not required, though I ask that the model be compatible with the skeleton of either Alyx or Dr. Mossman (preferably Alyx, since she has the most diverse set of animations).
The ability to texture your character models is a HUGE plus, but is also not a requirement for the position. I can find someone else to do that, if needed.
As a side note, make sure you aren't afraid of a microphone. Near the end of the mod's development, I will ask that you submit one or two developer commentaries, detailing the process of developing the character and the design decisions you had to make.
About the Character
Dr. Sarah Bowman got her start as an out-sourced psychological and mechanical researcher at Black Mesa. Fortunately for her, she was away from the complex during the events of Half-Life. Shortly after The Seven Hour War, Sarah gathered up a few of the brightest minds she knew and went on to construct Recombinant Incorporated, the Combine technology re-purposing facility featured in the mod. As head of RI, Sarah controls the reasearch and improvement of Combine weapons, equipment, and even Combine lifeforms themselves for use by the Human Resistance. She also helped to develop the Behavior Modification System, with her extensive knowledge of the Combine brain and slightly less extensive knowledge of machines.
What I Need
When offering to fill this position, please provide as many examples of your work as possible. This is not a full-time job, by any means. You can work whenever you feel it is most convenient and constant contact with me is not required. I understand you all have busy lives (as do I). At the moment, there is no release deadline, so don't feel pressured. Keep in mind, however, that I will expect to see at least a little progress here and there. I won't ask for an update every day, but I will definitely be interested in the development process of the model.
