Overwatch is looking for multi-talented level designers to join our team and work alongside a group of experienced developers having worked on some of the most popular mods including Zombie Panic: Source, Dystopia, Insurgency, Decadence, Sven Co-op and many more.

We boast an active and professional development environment, which is ideal for anyone looking to expand their knowledge and develop their skills, and to join a team with an aggressive plan for commercial viability.

Information about Overwatch can be found in the project's announcement, located here: http://www.ModDB.com/mods/overwatch/new ... dification

The candidate must:
- Have experience with Hammer and the Source engine,
- Have experience with Source entities and I/O logic,
- Be able to create (semi)-realistic environments,
- Have experience with different themes and styles,
- Be able to plan ahead and write a level design document that can be used as a reference,
- Have experience working iteratively,
- Work well within a team.

Experience with the following is a plus:
- Teamplay/cooperative oriented gameplay design,
- Versioning (SVN) and bug tracking (MantisBT),
- Additional talents, such as 2D (environments) or 3D (props) art and scripting (Lua, Python, Squirrel).

It is preferable (but not required) that this individual be living in Canada at the time of application.

To Apply
Send us your resume (with a cover letter) including a link to your online portfolio to: jobs@overwatchmod.com

How would I know? I haven't seen any of your work!

Don't let all the flashy colours and serious talk worry you, we have an amazing team and not everyone has a million years of experience. We've had quite a few inexperienced people join and they've learned plenty working with us, they even taught us a thing or two.

What's important to us is finding people with the right attitude and motivation, and a sense of responsibility.

So, for everyone reading, don't hesitate to apply!

I wish more mods exhibited this level of professionalism. Mod looks great and I hope you guys get the support you need.

(with a cover letter)

IMO cover letters are a waste of time. Most companies actually chuck them out when people send them in, which makes me wonder why they ask for them in the first place. But resumes/portfolios are a good idea. /rant

I suppose it all depends on the company and what they're after. In our case, both a resume and a portfolio would give us a good idea of a person's talents and experience, but neither would really tell us anything about the person's character, goals, etc..

Since team chemistry is so important when working with such a small, close-knit group of developers, we feel a short cover letter that tells us a bit about the candidate would help us better determine which one would make a better fit.

Could someone explain a cover letter? I'm sure I'm familiar with the concept, just not with that label.

Wikipedia wrote:Job seekers frequently send a cover letter along with their CV or employment application as a way of introducing themselves to potential employers and explaining their suitability for the desired position. Employers may look for individualized and thoughtfully written cover letters as one method of screening out applicants who are not sufficiently interested in their position or who lack necessary basic skills. Cover letters are typically divided into three categories:
The application letter or invited cover letter which responds to a known job opening
The prospecting letter or uninvited cover letter which inquires about possible positions
The networking letter which requests information and assistance in the sender's job search

Ahh, a CV. Never heard 'cover letter' before. Must be something us Brits don't let past the H&M Customs men.

And yes, I should have googled, thank you Plague for pointing that out gently. Heh.

AndY[OW] I have sent you an e-mail :)
I forgot to mention though that I have some sketches and a design document you could read if you want. Just mail me if you want to have a look and could also write down my workflow if you want that as well.

Btw a question... is this a full time move abroad type of job or just a non paid work from home type?

Cheers!
