Mario Kart: Source Dev Blog Thread

Hai :D

I joined the MKS team some months ago, I've been working along with OneEyed on the kart physics system. KillerMapper has posted some news I'm quoting right now:
Hello folks !

Lot of things happened during those last months! New coders, mapping progress, here is the summary of the latest months.

Since our latest news about help wanted, we got lot of people who proposed to help us with programming. Unfortunately, most of them never developed under the Source Engine, so they weren’t able to help us without having to train on the engine.

But we got at least two programmers who know the Source Engine! First, Klusark , who’s already coder in Stargate Legacy , joined us and started to include the weapon system in the game. Item boxes, bananas and shells are already going to be implemented, and more items will follow next.

Spike is the other coder; he’s also a great mapper! He made some nice maps, like pl_jungle for TF2. You can see some work on this topic on our forums . But he’s making some excellent work on coding too. The kart is now correctly playable, but it’s not finished: it’s just possible to drive around; next step is the jump and slide feature, with the mini-boost system.

Here is a video of how is looking the kart now; keep in minds that everything is still in progress and modifications can be made later, especially after multiplayer tests.

Finally, some news about one of the most popular battle maps: Block Fort! Here is a couple of screenshots showing the new layout of the beach around the main area. The map will have 4 different towers on each corner. You can see one tower on the screens; the 3 other aren’t finished yet.

Also, we’ll make news each month, even if nothing happened. But we’re trying to do the best possible to get a playable beta as soon as possible. The first public beta might include a few maps, characters and items, and additional content will be added progressively.

You can now comment our news too, just subscribe on the forums , and come on this section .

Thanks for everybody who follow and support us!

KillerMapper ~ MKS Team

I'm posting some early testing videos too.

The first one shows a new gravity type called surface gravity, it's similar to the gravity used in Mario Galaxy, but it's currently very buggy. Also, I thought the kart wouldn't be able to loop, but as u can see in the previous and next video, it can with default HL2 gravity.

The second one shows the upright code, I'm currently modifing it to coder's angular velocity method instead of using torques.

First I'd heard about that O.O lol.

I beg you to make a BC Racers style co-op mode.

If I have to be honest, I joined the mod like 3 months ago, and still haven't seen him on the forums, added him to Stem but don't know if he has accepted it because I can't see him on the friend's list.

About the ETA, we still don't know, I just joined and almost all code needs to be done.

Hello, I'm KillerMapper, from Mario Kart Source. I was going to create a new topic but Spike already made this so don't need to create another more.

I post here because we are in a big need of coders. Like you can see on this topic, we used to have 3 coders : Spike, Klusark and OneEyed. But...

Klusark had to quit us since he didn't have enough time for both MKS and Stargate Legacy.
OneEyed is still here, but without lot of free time. And he's already a programmer in his life, so making more code for MKS after having a full day working on code isn't always funny.
And Spike... We don't know what happened with him. He suddenly vanished, we never heard news from him since months. He's always online on Steam but he never answer, and we have absolutely no idea why because he was really implicated into the mod like you can see with this topic he created and the videos he posted, showing his code work on the kart.
We have another member, Dragon, who can do some code, but he's a level designer first.

It's why I'm here, asking to everybody who is susceptible to help us to contact us at jobs@mariokartsource.com. I suppose you know that we use C++ language as Interlopers.net is based on Source Engine.

Thanks a lot, hope we will find some nice people here :)
