I'll use any engine that uses an I/O system.

Right, if you want to get involved i think you have to have a source forge account. But they are free and plentiful.
First line of business, engine.

I think going straight to AS would be a bad idea, so i suggest we start in 2007 (available to anyone with a source game) but have a branch of people working on AS. Then we can port the work we have done over as soon as we cut AS down to a decent starting point.

It's been attempted many times before this, in many other places. It's either going to localize into the few people who want to work on it, thus destroying the idea of a forum wide or community mod, or people will simply lose interest and the project will be abandoned.

Anything below release is just another failed attempt. Have fun while it lasts.

What's up Canman? You going to make the party this year?

Also, I agree that while this idea does seem interesting at first, a small percentage of all lopers will participate in it, and they'll all be pulling in different directions.

This isn't going anywhere fast without a strong leader.

I know i'm a terrible leader... could you suggest someone else?
And it seems polycount can band together to work on one project, why shouldn't interlopers be able to?

Well I dont know if polycount banded together to create a MOD - thats a pretty big project which nowadays requires a lot of dedication and skills. However I do not wish to discourage you and a strong leader is definitely necessary - in the end 40-50% of the people who said they will participate will drop out so keep that in mind.

With a strong leader and at least one experienced programmer this has a chance of working out. I have never seen a community mod project achieve any appreciable form of success but this is Interlopers we're talking about so I'll give you guys much better odds than usual.

i guess if you want some material for your mod(like maps, models etc), then just write a private message to every loper and gently ask for it. then you just have to get everything working etc. that would be a good start for a community project.

I pick King Jun Neal because he's the only one of them whose government still is around today. :smt023
