Commentary Problems

Postby Groxkiller585 on Sun Jan 09, 2011 4:31 pm

Hi all, I've been trying to get commentary to function in both a mod and custom map. Both times it works, but the problem is it doesn't have subtitles, even though I included "synopsis" in the commentary file. Followed the VDC tut.

Here's the map's commentary txt file:

Code: Select all
"Entities"
{
   "entity"
   {
      "classname" "point_commentary_node"
      "targetname" "PTROA_comment_01"
      "origin" "-15 -15 30"
      "angles" "0 90 0"
      "precommands" ""
      "postcommands" ""
      "commentaryfile" "#commentary\testcomment.wav"
      "printname" "PTROA_comment_01"
      "viewtarget" ""
      "viewposition" ""
      "prevent_movement" 0
      "speakers" "Groxkiller585"
      "synopsis" "This is a test comment. If you can hear this then it is working."
                "parser_id" "1"
   }
}

Am I missing something? Also, when I try to add commentary via the commentary editor (-tools), I can't because it won't let me add new ones. (the option is always dark)

You need to add the subtitles to your your modnamehere_english.txt in the resource folder. You just add it there like:

"#commentary\testcomment.wav" "Blah blah blah"

You need to run the .txt through captioncompiler.exe to get the subtitles work. It will create a modnamehere_english.dat. I am not sure what the synopsis used for, though.

That did not work, filepaths are correct. I tried closedcaption_english.txt as well but captioncompiler refuses to compile it.

which captioncompiler.exe did you try? If you were, for example, trying to use the orangebox one, try the source2007 one instead, or vise versa.

Orangebox. I know it works because it works for modname_english but for some reason modname_english is not read.
