1 you give just to less information....
2 you can think you can walk away with that 2 scripts on the internet, have you ever played bioshock? because this script is faulty
3 do you think you can walk away unharmed if you just want to make 1 on 1 copy of Bioshock....
4 do you actualy know what making a game is?
5 hammer concept art is worth shit to a modeler who needs to build complex models from blue prints.... (so get your paper and pencil ready)
6 is it not better to come up with your own game instead of ripping/mirroring an already existing game????
7 how do you make your concept art so quick (while for my game i drew hunderds of sketches to get what i want)
8 where is your guiding book that will lead the modelers, texture artists, programmers, sound artists to their ultimate goal 12 pages isnt good enough to get a clear picture of what you want
9 do you have the "REAL" skills to keep your crew motivated and have energy enough to help them reach the finished product....
10 do you know the borders of the source engine on what is possible/in your head you think without any hold ups but when you want to implant some ideas you could be limited by the things you did not know yet...

and the last part it will take a person at least 10 years to get on a good level in understanding how a game is build....
so if you just have decided to make games join a mod group to gain experience that you can later on use in your own project....

you will need a Producer,Designer,programmer,visual artist,Audio artist,Quality Assurance Specialist.....
good luck on finding those!

i do not want to disencourage you but i want to point you at the problems you will face during modding you game...

2003 used UE2, 2004 used UE2.5, the SWAT 4 games used UE2.5, and Bioshock used 2K's modified UE2.5 engine with water physics from UE3 I believe. Look it up on the wiki.

Yeah, Bioshock used a heavily modified UE2.5 engine.

How the hell can switching to another engine be easier if you want to retain the theme of a game? If you stay with UE you can probably recycle most of not all assets of bioshock. You can finish your game much, much faster since you don't have to model/photoshop/skin/build/program every asset of the game you want to build.

Whats even more surprising is that you consider source engine to be easier to use, yet you have very little knowledge about how it works. So, what makes it easier for you? that you can download it with just one button in Steam?

Downloading steam and creating an account was pretty tough for him anyway, so don't go too hard on him.

This is never going to happen.

I mean, come on, let's be honest.

Take a step back and really look at all this.

This is never going to happen. So spend your time actually doing something that will benefit you.

My name is Major Banter. About four or so years ago I joined Interlopers and posted a similar topic; I showed off awful mapping skills and basically asked the community for help.

I was laughed at for six pages.

I have actually showed more than you, and was totally shocked by the community response. Then I read up on "mod ideas" and came across this article on the VDC.

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... _Team_Tips

You do the work, I'm the leader/idea person
"I GOT A GREAT IDEA FOR A MOD BUT I JUST NEED LEIK MAPPERS N SKINNERS N CODERS N STUFF! OMG EMAIL ME!"
This kind of plea for help on a mod is laughable, but actually common. Someone with no actual technical talent in mod development has a "great" idea, and just needs to get basically the entire team to come help. Oh, and they will be the leader and the "idea person".

You have stated yourself that you've had disagreements with people in real life over your writing. If you can't work constructively with people in RL, what about over the internet: Skype, MSN and Steam? How can you manage them, let alone build the environment your vision entails?

My advice to you is to work on this idea alone, and learn a lot of lessons. Learn yourself why people ridicule such posts as yours, and prove to us that you really can 'stick to task'. Your attitude is encouraging, but you cannot simply magic a modification from words alone.

Sorry chap, but this is just not how things are done. Get Hammer. Get a 3D modelling program. Get Visual Studio. Learn what you're asking people to do - what you're asking them to involve their time and effort in. Learn why people will laugh openly at you while you sit in Word, and ask them to "make a pistol please".

Go and learn. That's my advice.

I think that this post is the most honest, kindest, and helpful post so far. Thank you.

As for the rest of you; I'll see you when I'm done working. Have a nice day!

I am one who beleives that if you truely set your mind to something, you will do it. You just have to understand why so many people are acting this way towards you (including my earlier post).

You are in for a ton of work and the odd's are stacked against you. It is not the best choice to start moding, by being a mod leader. Not to say there are people who are born leaders, great at managment, but you need to understand what goes into each department. If you already understood that, you would understand that putting in all that work, for something that already exists, is a bit futile.

Google 'halflife remade in halflife2', or vice versa, and you will see this same thread 100 times over. I do understand you have a twist on it, but that just isnt enough to get people to join.

Just like the others have said; learn a talent other than writing if you want to lead. My honest advice would be to just join another mod team for the time being and learn from their mistakes. You can always come back to this once your feet are wet. There is no hurry. I don't think anyone here has actually made the 1st game idea they had, when that game idea came before they knew how to mod.

Good luck, and don't let people talk you out of something, but don't forget to see their underlying advice also.

I'm planning a total conversion...

I think I've got the benefits of already knowing how to model, animate, map, texture and more...
