Insurgency: Redeployment

Postby Rokonader on Wed May 18, 2011 9:43 pm

Summary:
Insurgency is the your number one choice for tactical gaming on the source engine. While it may not always be achieved its the easiest. The current mod is called Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat is being held hostage by the current developing team, and has been this way for years (no joke), this is why Rukus, Roko and I have started this team (Rokonader is making the post, but, me mild, wrote this part). We hope to add a new chapter to this fabulous mod. We have hit some rough patches but will surly get past them. What we hope to achieve is a mod that has not been done before, it will be able to deliver gameplay relative to the current Insurgency game, but also add new features and gamemodes to really bring out the tactical, strategical game never thought possible in Insurgency.

Roster:
Robbie 'hotsauce' Connolly - Project Leader
Rukus - Project Leader
Rokonader - Asst. Project Leader, AIM Liaison
Foofighter - Lead modeler
Barnaby - Lead Coder
Hypno Toad - Mapper
Hardcell - Mapper
Dylan - Weapon sounds
Kanar - Website manager
Snake - Coder

We are in need of a modeler, please contact Mildhotsauce at mlb72197@gmail.com for information.

what do you mean "Held hostage"? It's their mod, they can develop it or not develop it as they please. What's your affiliation with the real insurgency mod?

Why do you insist on having the "Insurgency" name, this sounds like a metric fuckton of EASILY avoidable drama waiting to happen. Call it "Insurrection" or something if you really like the theme.

Before youre trying to search team members here, please stop stealing all your Stuff from the original Insurgency.
Seriously, the M1911 was added in some of the later patches before they abandoned the mod, the AK, which is declared as "created by Jeremys Team", looks pretty familiar to me... I checked the files and it is the exact same stuff as in the current Insurgency build. The kabar is the same too.
Hell the only thing that isnt made by the "old team" is that custom map you showed there (and probably even that is stolen from some mapper without him knowing).

Id really like to see something YOU have done and not an advertisment for your mod with content you havent created by yourselves.

This sounds a lot like the drama around FireTeams..
Why don't you JOIN the original mod team and create stuff for them instead of bashing down on them?

Because the original mod doesnt seem to be developed anymore.
And dont get me wrong: i have nothing against making a realistic mod or recreating Insurgency, but if someone plans to do this, he should do everything from scratch or with permissions of the original developers. Whats happening here is just causing a lot of confusion.

If they don't develop, add new people that develop it?

thats the most amazing uzi render i have ever seen. also, i think its a bit crazy to try to rebuild insurgency this late in the game. it really is a shame what has happened to the INS team, one thing modding isnt short of is drama.

They stopped updating it, shortly after the game was released on steam. You heard nothing of them and in the end the whole Community fell apart :( Think there was more going on behind the scenes between Jeremy, the former mod leader, who wanted to return after he left the mod and the devs, who wouldnt let him. Thats what im remembering, if anyone wants to summarize what was going on there id really appreciate it.

After Jeremy stopped working on INS, I was working with him and Sergio (who were both leads on INS) aswell as a few other former INS devs on a UT3 mod called Land of the Gun. That eventually fell apart because Jeremy didnt have time to manage the team and Sergio got promoted or hit crunch at work (he was working at one of the Ubi offices).

Stop trying to rip off peoples hard work.

When Jeremy released the code and content for the mod this is what he said.
Regarding INS Classic, we have decided that it is in the project's best interest to be made open source. We really hoped to take on this project ourselves, but the Intellectual Property dispute that has ensued has turned quite ugly, filled with all kinds of selfishness and deceit that has shifted focus away from what truly matters - the players. This decision was a hard one, but essentially no one deserves to profit off of the mod, nor get in the way of its progress. By making the mod open source we will be releasing and supporting one of the more advanced open source game APIs that exist, allowing any programmer or developer that signs up to make the improvements and additions that they wish. As far as open source projects go, Insurgency provides developers with a great opportunity because of the game's countless complex, unfinished features; and its potential to be upgraded to Orange Box and improved upon significantly.

Jeremy gave us the permission to take this content and build it up to a new mod. However most of the code will not compile with out a earlier compiler ~2003. The reason why we are posting here is to gain more team members so we can create more custom content. So far we have 3-4 mappers, a couple of guys who create sounds, a coder, and a few non game play type positions. And most of these people can do other things, they can create semi good models, and sounds. Jeremy claims he will send us 3-4 professionals once his team gets settled in. His team is
The INSURGENCY franchise does live on in a new and exciting form, however. After meeting with both Crytek and Epic Games at the GDC, we have pretty much decided which engine we are licensing, and are pretty excited about it. We will make a press release and announcement about this once the decision is official and our site is finished.

The people who have ownership over the mod right now have made it a point that Insurgency will never be updated again.

Also there has been zero drama between us and the former dev team (the current 'team' on insmod.org)

We also are not 'ripping off' other peoples work. We are not saying we made those models, but those models WILL be in the game.

No we are not the best dev team ever, but we have people who have skill. To many of us this is a new experience and we all have to start some where

I don't want to start a massive forum debate, but I really do not approve of what you guys are doing. I can totally understand Jeremy's position, in fairness I haven't done any work on Zombie Panic: Source for at least 3 years, and Contagion at least 6 months (despite being listed as an active team member on the ZPS site and a Monochrome employee on the Monochrome site). Sometimes when you're done with a project, you're just done with it. There is always something new on the horizon that you want to work on.
Find inspiration in something yourself, it will work out better for you than trying to shoulder the burden of furthering something you already love. It never works out well.

I see what your saying and we have discussed this and we realize this game can not be an exact recreation, we realize we need to move forward and that is what we are doing. This mod had so much more potential and it was cut short. I realize this mod will not live for ever. Everyone on our team wants Insurgency to be remembered as a game that was ground breaking for the source engine, even if its team work type game play did not last as long as some hoped, a mod that brought a whole new type of game play and that gathered so much support from people for years that three to four years later people still have hope for this mod and want to improve on it. This mod will have what Insurgency did not get to implement, new theatres, weapons, game modes, and more.
