Squad-based Cyberpunk Stratergy (mod idea)

Since before DX:HR came out and before the new Syndicate was announced as being an FPS I had been toying with the idea of making a Syndicate mod. A sort of polycount upgrade of syndicate wars. I quite fancy adding the idea of having different classes of agent ( Doc, Hacker, Suit, Tank ) to give the agents some personality.

My modding experience is mainly Source based and I really didn't want to make a cyberpunk FPS, because of the obvious parallels it would draw with Dystopia. Trouble is i'm not sure how well Source can be modded to operate as an RTS. I've only seen one Source RTS mod, HL2Wars, which appears to be open sourced. Has anyone here had a look at the HL2 wars code? Could it be modded to operate like Syndicate without a major re-write?

When I played through Starcraft 2, the city maps made me think that might be a better basis for a Syndicate mod, since all the RTS stuff and city assets are already there. However that means learning a whole other engine, asset management and scripting system from scratch. Has anyone here had any experience modding SC2?

Also if this sounds like something you'd be interested in playing or contributing to i'd like to hear your thoughts.

Empiresmod.com , it does it quite good as a hybrid of FPS/RTS.

However, I think you're better off learning SC2 than trying to do a RTS mod in source, I think you can do a lot of things easier in SC2 than in source. Even tho WC3 is even easier than SC2.
