EDIT: Reuploaded with no compression so the colours actually look decent >.>

A mod for the original Portal. Quite late in the stages of development and I am in serious need of a modeler. Two main things are needed, the first being a character model to replace Chell and the second being a damaged Weighted Cube.

In return, I will add your name to the credits (obviously), add graffiti of your choice, and add various easter eggs should you choose. You also get to play the beta (which I haven't updated since January >.>)

Unless you got code access, I don't recommend using env_projectedtexture(I see one in your first picture).
Have a question related to modding or something I posted? Something that needs staff attention? I haven't been active lately, but feel free to PM me or message me on Steam(link below)

Its used very sparingly. It is mostly used in BTS areas, and this one area. (and I can't edit the code, its Portal)

Then don't even bother, it looks like shit without code edits.

If you're going to criticise, be civil.

I agree, though I find that in the areas it has been used it works quite well (I am actually toying with removing the projected texture here anyway)

What?

Env_projectedtextures look horrible in 2007 without edits. They are over-filtered/blurred and lack enough resolution to light anything bigger than a closet.

On the subject of the actual map, it looks pretty decent. Kinda dark for Portal though.

It honestly doesn't look that dark when you actually play it (Its just a bit of a dark spot)

Just one more note before I let this thread stay on topic - you just defined what 'civil' is Gary! There's no need for statements like "don't even bother" or "looks shit" (even if they're true!) regarding something a mapper is using when you can give actual reasons for not using them. Manners cost nothing.

Anyway, on topic, darkness is something that I'd pick out (along with your first two images now being broken) along with very repetitive textures. In that final shot we're seeing a lot of the same thing over and over. It's flat and monotonous - the problem with Portal though is flat monotony is part of the style and helps the player spot solutions! I just wonder if you could liven it up a bit.

The images aren't broken :v You might just need to hit refresh.
The darkness really isn't a problem in game, though as I said I might be replacing that projected texture anyway, which would solve the problem. And the third screenshot is a WIP from the most recent map.

One strange problem I am having however is a strange one... Explosions don't work in a few maps. I can't figure out which entity is doing it, but explosions from rockets or env_explosion just don't show up. They happen, there is sound, but there is no effect. Its minor, but damn annoying.
