I don't think the Vorts like G-Man at all. True, injecting Gordon did help their cause. But I think the Vorts know more about the G-Man than we will ever know. I believe the only reason the Vorts haven't tried to hurt G-Man, is because they can't. And I don't think G-Man is allowed to hurt the Vorts(as we know, he answers to a higher power).

Come to think of it the G-Man supplied the materials that made the resonance cascade failure at black mesa possible, which lead to Freeman's eventual defeat of the big giant head (I forget the name) at the end of HL1, which freed the Vorts from slavery. I wonder if the Vorts realise they owe the freedom of their entire species to the minimalist interventions of the G-Man...

I'm not sure the player should get too involved in whatever higher order of reality the G-Man is fronting for. We just don't have the vortal nodes to comprehend it.

I'm pretty sure that the franchise is going to end with a time warp cliche and it will turn out to be freeman that delivered the anomalous sample to the resonance chamber after all. Would have been a great way to end the series five years ago but the concept is a bit dated now.

I also firmly believe that there will never be another actual installment in full HL2 canon.

Cool as that does sound, I don't see their being much benefit in killing off the G-Man. The G-Man is far too useful as a deus ex machina to get Freeman where he needs to go. Even with a super gravity gun and an army of Vorts I don't think Freeman is the the league to take on G-Man's time/space/reality warping hyper-technology. The vorts don't seem to be actively hostile toward the G-Man during their interactions anyway. By introducing Freeman to City17 the G-man actually helped the Vorts cause.

Ok...

1. I was being somewhat sarcastic about the whole "final battle" thing...I have a feeling that any showdown between Gordon and G-Man where Gordon is NOT assisted by Vorts will be one-sided and perfectly anti-climatic.
2. In the event of a "final battle" like the one I described...what in the hell makes you think G-Man would die? Or even lose?

ha! I can picture it now, Freeman walking up bleary eyed and late for work on the day he's due in the test chamber

I know it's been a long time already but I think episode 3 will be released far before this mod could be finished. I don't see a project like this being worthwhile unless the real deal is cancelled, which isn't going to happen.

Pretty much what this guy said. Plus I'd rather wait on Valve since the game will be a polished product in every aspect.

I personally don't care if the ending to Half-Life is cliche, and I honestly hope this will be the final installment in the series.

All I care about is that they work hard on the ending and give it satisfying closure. I'm so damn sick of vague endings that try to evoke some kind of emotion or concept that's "thoughtful" or "provocative."

I mean, I'm already pissed off about the ending to Mass Effect being completely awful and without any closure whatsoever. If the same thing happens with Half-Life then I might just give up on video game writing altogether.

I only hope this if they can't be creative. Otherwise, I want more HL.

Oh I completely agree with this.

I'm just afraid Half-Life could get "sequelitis" if they end up making more installments after this upcoming one.
