6x10 Mapping Competition #2 ElevatorVille

Postby planetphillip on Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:32 pm

This competition is being kindly sponsored by http://www.SteamContests.Com.

The prize, in addition to the points, is $25 US Dollars (paid via PayPal) plus two random Steam games.

For this competition I want you to create puzzles to allow an elevator to work or open.

To enter, you need a minimum of 3 floors. The objective is to create some sort of puzzle to get the elevator up or down to the next floor.

You can have "press the right buttons", combat, power supply issues, shoot something; anything to get the elevator working.

Each floor can be completely different from the others. They don't have to have any visual connection with each other. They can be abstract, funky, Combine-esque, Ravenholm, Sixties London (if you wanna make the textures and models); the choice is yours.

The winner will be the map that was most fun to play and looked good.

As usual, if you have any questions, please use the comments system below or email me directly: planetphillip@gmail.com.

There are NO additional rules that apply to this competition - but make sure you READ the main rules!

There will be points available for individual puzzles, so even if you don't win, you may get valuable points to add to the final total.

Sounds interesting, I'll give it a go. Just a quick question, can each floor be a seperate bsp? Linked together with landmarks and stuff.

Ah, if I wasn't working on the Ravenholm mod with the team I would throw my best at it too. Good luck the rest of the lads giving it a shot though.

I'm not really sure, but does this mean you have to have elevator that has to be powered up again on each three (or more) floors? So, you go one floor at a time, get out of elevator push button/rub your bullets against someone, get back in elevator, to another floor.. and that until it's finished?

Yes, each floor can be a separate bsp but unless it's pretty huge I don't really see why that would help.

You can go up or down as many floors as you want with each puzzle.

All I need is a minimum of three puzzles/elevators. They don't even need to be the same elevator.

I´m in. First competition ever i will participate for Source. Sorry for not understanding but do i have to join beforehand or it is just about sending the map within the time you mentioned?

I´m going to include a free-to-use legal texture pack which weights 48mb. Is that okay? I hope so.

Glad to hear you have decided to participate.

Just send you map and files before the deadline - no need to official register intent or anything.

There's no problem with the texture pack, just make sure you send it along with your entry, or at least a link to it.

:) Of course, I´m going to pack it inside the bsp and will remove the unused textures to save space. Will also include the readme so it is clear that the pack is free.
