Half-Life 1 Mods now broken

Postby DocRock on Fri Apr 05, 2013 1:11 am

Due to the latest update to Half-Life, all third person mods no longer work.

Player cannot turn all the way around. Players are only allowed to turn 45 degrees in either direction.

Anyone heard of a fix for this?

There is no fix yet. They are aware of the problem, but don't seem to put it at the top of any lists.

Time to move on.

Really don't want to move on because I got a mod I've been working on for the past 7 years. Surely hate to dump it over a stupid bug that should have never been allowed.

it sucks, but Valve isn't really known for fixing bugs in a timely fashion

It's probably the worst thing Valve has ever done, I don't see how they could have not seen this coming.

And as said they won't be fixing soon.

You see it as a bug, they see it as Linux is now supported.

I know it sucks, but it's not their priority to support mods. I know some other mods are just using a stand alone version now that uses the retail copy. Check with Cry of Fear if you want more info.

They didn't even have to put Half-Life 1 to Steampipe! It literally changed nothing. The files aren't even packed. All they ever did was break the game.

You don't even need developer set to 1 in order to get higher framerate than 100. This makes all sorts of bugs really easy to execute.
Many people are also having problems with their mouse sensitivity due to recent updates.

Oh wait, we got Linux. Congratulations, Valve! You made the whole GoldSrc community unable to play your games! Even mods are broken or completely unplayable.

Valve should split the company management style in half and divide it over two teams
-one half with no management structure, that will create the games (like it is now for everything)
-the other half should have a tight schedule , fixing bugs, doing documentation, updating the modding tools etc (with deadlines)

because what they are doing now obviously benefits the quality of their games.. but everything else is lacking hard
and is beyond annoying.

That's all fine and all, but that doesn't make them money.

Adding new platforms, adding more features such as workshop and support it makes them money. A LOT of money.

Same reason Windows 98 isn't supported anymore.

well in this case it's the gold source community, but think about stuff like the modding tools, anyway.. offtopic
