Jailbreak: New map, new game mode!

Postby Wills on Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:00 pm

Today the Jailbreak Source team continue the build up to the release of Jailbreak 0.4 with four new pictures from IZaNaGI's new map, Iridium. The map is set on a space-ship, in the middle of an epic space battle, with the damaged ship under attack from Combine forces as the Rebels attempt to regain control.

So what's different about this map you ask? An entirely new game mode, that's what! Instead of straight forward Jailbreak, this new map revolves around rescuing your teams VIP. At the start of each round, one team member is randomly selected from each team and placed in Jail, the goal of the map is to break that team member out of jail, and return them safely to the rescue zone.

Yes costume textures are nice, and this isn't the only map where costume textures are used :)

I think this new game mode will be hard but refreshing after some normal Jailbreak fights.
An other piece of art by the jailbreak dev. team :D

lol! Rumbled! Indeed winter is a beta tester and street team member :)

Our street team members comments are purely to inspire debate, not simply praise the mod... That's everyone elses job! :D

We don't mind negative comments, if you think it's rubbish say so! The Street Team isn't about praising the mod... we simply want to promote Jailbreak and get people talking about it. Plus, you get to join new forums, meet new people and find new friends! - From our Street Team rules

Nice brushwork, nice style, nice textures ...
Everything is nice, but the VIP mode sounds hard :P

Nonetheless, it's going to be amazing. Can't wait for V0.4 :D

There really is a lot of brush work going on in that map...couldn't some things like the spaceship be modelled? I also have to say, this doesn't compare yet to Izanagi's previous efforts, i've seen his work before and know he's capable of more. The lighting is bland and could be spiced up a lot more, the skybox in screen 4 looks like it's a plane with a few stars painted on it, the custom textures are extremely clean and should probably be dirtied/scratched up - overall some parts of this map look like they could be from 1.6 rather than Source.

I don't normally comment on any maps on here but i felt i had to say something for this one - put some more effort in and it could end up looking a lot nicer.

Hiya thanks for the comments so far, it's a shame that you feel that way about what i have created this time (it is still WIP) but i just wanted to show off my current contribution to the mod and mostly of all get some feedback.

It's weird because there is actually a fair few custom models in all of the views i guess that they just blend in too much with the environment that nobody seems to be noticing, the wall panels, rails, chairs, flags and the ship in the hanger are all custom props (though the ship is still very basically skinned so far) and although im still pretty noobified at XSI i thought they worked better then just placing the usual HL2 based props.

My objective was create the interior of the ship first and then "destroy" it, making it more the invaded wreck its supposed to be, grungeing up the textures/models and making areas destroyed and at this current point your seeing the clean version but the plan is to still "spice it up".

I just hope that future images live up to peoples expectations of me and i'll polish maps up a lot more before releasing any images in future, both this and Arroyo have had some bad comments thus far (Arroyo has changed drastically since my last media release) but i strive to make my maps both highly playable and more visually appealing to help JB:S get the attention i believe it deserves.

Ta ...

I think it looks good, but the texture set and clunky brushwork really remind me of an old school UT map, I'm sure you can push the Source engine further then this. The lighting really needs some work, some more contrast will really bring out the map.

Can't say I like the look of that starry window bit, but other than that, very, very nice.

OK fella, wonderfully constructive as usual. I'm going back to the drawing board with a lot of it including the lighting and brush work to take away a lot of the sameyness of it all. Just remember that its still very WIP and i hope to bring out future shots of this and Arroyo in future media.

Ta fella's!!
