TF2 Medic "Overcharge" update scrapped

Postby Mess on Mon Mar 10, 2008 2:28 pm

According to a post from Robin Walker on the Steam User Forums, the anticipated updates for the Medic, including unlockable weapons such as the Overhealer, have been scrapped.

"No details on the Pyro’s unlockable weapons yet, sorry. We’re still focusing on the Medic, and the underlying system. Your fire axe will be happy to hear that the Overhealer didn’t work out as well as we wanted it to, and won’t be making an appearance."

Check out the Bit-Tech news article and the forum-post in question.

Title is misleading. The update isn't scrapped, the overhealer is. Of course they'll still give the medic an unlockable weapon, just not that. And the achievements are still coming.

I'm glad. I think the overhealer would have really messed up the game.

I'm not sure wether I'm happy or sad. I too think the overhealer would, if not mess up, at least change the game in a bad way.

But on the other hand, when do you think we'll see this update now? Alongside Ep3? Let's face it, Valve isn't exactly famous for releasing stuff fast...

No, they aren't famous for releasing stuff fast. They're famous for releasing quality stuff when they think it's ready, and I'll stand by with whatever decision they make because I know it will be for the better.

Huzzah to that!

And I think they'll release the Double Healer, there's a picture in the Valve GDC TF2 presentation. Hopefully they release the Pyro and the Medic one at the same time. They should do them in installments of 2 because it would take way too long to do them all one by one.

Yeah damn straight. All those other dev companies are plagued with shitty deadlines and release games that either suck nuts or are full of bugs.

Hey! Just like Halo!

I for one thought the overhealer did sound like a rather bad idea on Valve's part. I'm glad they scrapped it. Maybe like an 8 second invulnerable syringe dispenser. :D (that sounds kind of like a stupid idea)

Quality or not, that excuse does get old eventually.

Would you rather have a shit game like the Halo Series that was cut off by deadlines and releases shit gametypes+maps every 3 months, or a great game like TF2 that releases quality maps and game upgrades every 6 months.

I like Valve's way of doing things: fuck release dates, make sure it's quality work when it comes out.

If you phrased that a little more softly, then yeah I'd agree with you :P
