i'm just gonna sit back and pray for a PS3 version

my laptop would simply perish at the thought of L4D's requirements

lose the mod capability though

*sigh*

hope you lot enjoy it, i'll stick with Dead Space for my decapitation sessions

I would say too expenise... something like 20-25$ would have been more proper prise... Source engine is good though it is old. Then what I have read about it... sounds to me more like mod than a game... something like TF2.

I don't think it is to expensive at all, ofcorse it is something different from how Valve usually prices it's games. But that doesn't mean it is to much. This is a new updated engine we are talking about. We are talking about dynamic audio and visual effect, We are talking about one of the best AI systems I know.

How do you mean it sounds more like a mod? This is the first game that successfully uses singleplayer elements and multiplayer elements. I haven't seen anybody do that as well as valve did on L4D.

Sorry but gotta point out how false this statement is.
They added a new AI system, but not to the engine.

$65 for me. I'll wait for a while.

It looks good and all, I just don't have money to waste like that.
I design (v4.1 released 23/2) and Tweet.

€33,50 sounds fair to me.

But I'll be buying it retail as I want the box :P

Have you even seen the new lightning, dynamic color correction and the real time shadow rendering? :/

Have you seen that source has supported this since Ep1?
Maybe even before?

I read the GDC Slides (I think it was GDC) and all i could think was;
"Valve, i've seen all this in the source engine before, why are you only using it now? And why are you telling people like its a big deal?"

I dare you to show ONE instance in Episode 1 with a dynamic flashlight, dynamic color correction in action, or an AI director.

Go ahead, I'm waiting.

Seriously people, your bitching about "omg its teh soaurce engin r outdated lol show us 4096x4096 parallax real time day/night cyculs!" is starting to become so God damned annoying. This isn't 2004, the Source engine isn't the same as the one in HL2, learn to face the facts. Or, if you're planning on repeating the same load of bull; go play Crysis and quit your moaning.

Looks like you've gone and been a dipshit yourself... Everyone's moaning about the source engine is valid... i just got a new rig... i can run TF2 on full at 1600x1200 with 140 fps... Compared to all the new games coming out source is looking more and more outdated... true the engine has been updated but its far from keeping up with the likes of crysis and unreal...

The dynamic flashlight i do belive was in episode 2 but i may be wrong... And the AI director we haven't met before because he was only necessary for this game..

In this case rb_lestr couldn't be more wrong, but for the sake of pissing off panther (for the lulz) I'm going to side with rb_lestr...

HAHAHAH

anyways, onto srsness.

The new source engine improvements are indeed improvements over the orange box. Yes, Dynamic lighting was in ep2, but now multiple sources can cast dynamic lights, along with flash lights now affecting the bump map shadows (instead of just illuminating the texture and ignoring the bump map shadows, like in ep2). That, along with dynamic color correction, vignetting and other new features (possibly with some premature deformable mesh/cloth physics), the source engine now looks better than ever.

On top of that, I think that since turtle rock is now part of valve, Matt Boone might have implemented a navigation mesh for ai pathfinding (vs the waypoint path finding found in all games except for css) to be standard in all source games. As everyone knows, in waypoint path finding you place nodes that the ai moves to. This can cause some serious problems, making the ai move unnaturally or ignoring certain parts of the world that they shouldn't. The Navigation mesh fixes this problem, and still allows for waypoints to be placed inside of the mesh (allowing you to place nodes for a preferred path, or node hints). But the draw back to this is that it either takes a really long time to generate the Navigation mesh algorithmically or you have to create it by hand (which you aren't forced to do with waypoint navigation).

GAH, I'm tired of typing, that is all.
