Who buys something just off of a trailer? Plus what money could Valve actually make off of this? Think it through.

Trailer was great quality, like most BMS media releases. Good to see some gameplay & set pieces in there too.

What you on about Bema, if Valve bought this up I think it would be a massive hit. Especially to those who have played HL2 but not HL1 because of the graphics (silyl people). They'd easily make money and get some great devs out of it.

I think it looks fantastic and I really can't wait to play it and see how well it really is.

valve has already requested that we send them a build of the game pre final release, seeing as were making liberal use of their IP its not too much to ask as far as we're concerned. It's at that point in time I'd imagine that anything like hirings or buyouts would happen, and realistically valve already tried to make money off the idea with Half-Life: Source, with a few members already in industry it could be seen as a conflict of interest to have one fo their competitors make money of their work meanign we would have to ditch some very good people and some very godo work and that is not happening.

Chances are BM will remain free and that I'll just have some good protfolio work and keep dreaming about the day I go for an interview at valve.

well angry beaver going by the trailer i think its lookin superb and i personally think youll be get tht interview sooner rather than later.

as for "why would valve want to buy this" - are you being serious. HL1 was huge, if this was to sell for $40 think of the money involved. ill put a $10 on this Mod being Valve property very very soon.

even if i want it for free....

looks pretty, but the gameplay section with the exploding crates then firefight up the stairs caused me some consternation... I'd like to try a demo, if this is going to be a 4-5GB download.

its unlikely valve will buy it. it wont make them anything compared to what ep3 and the rest will make and is just a drop in the bucket. honestly, only true die-hard half life fans would buy the game. they would get better publicity by just backing it and putting a small bit of advertisement up on steam, this would then help their image and would help them in the long run.

but the fact still remains that this mod looks amazing. easily best mod ive ever seen and if its anwhere near as good as hl1 then best ive ever played.

i dont care even if it takes 2 more years to make, id rather they gave out a polished product that made me feel like a little boy reliving memories of playing half life again than a half finished game next month.

looks gorgeous. Makes me hope (in vain?) for a release in the next few months. The only thing that really saddens me is that this isn't an original SP game. Oh well, keep up the good work.

I had a weekend of doing no work for uni, then at 4am saw this trailer and was suddenly inspired to start modeling! Me and a friend have been wandering around uni in awe of this damn thing, its the most polished mod work I've ever seen!

To think that Black Mesa and Neo Tokyo will both be getting releases next year... its fantastic!

As Angry Beaver mentions further up the thread, Vavle had their shot at this idea with Half Life: Source. Plus it's a 'remake' of one of their earlier games. There's no way anyone would let them live down buying one of the most hotly anticipated mods - especially a 'remake', and then go on to sell it for profit. This isn't like CSS, L4D, or Portal - which were all original designs.

Exactly.

Realistically, if Valve are going to throw any money around on this, it'll be on individual hirings.

All this money talk annoys me. It seems if anyone does anything well, or makes something good, it's always "Valve will want to buy this!" or "Valve should hire them".
