TF2 Blog Update

Postby Blink on Fri Dec 12, 2008 12:06 am

What with the craze surrounding Left 4 Dead recently it seemed that the TF2 side of things has gone quiet. Not so according to a recent update:

  • Teleporters will be upgradeable to level 3. As the teleporter is upgraded, the cooldown will decrease.
  • Dispensers will be upgradeable to level 3. They will heal faster and generate metal faster as they are upgraded.
  • Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground.
  • We've made a bunch of minor changes by adding particle systems and upgrading the HUD to show things like deaths by critical hits, players that are overhealed, and giving more information to medics when people are calling for them.

Plenty more info is available at the Team Fortress 2 Blog.

Ah, I heard some talk about the upgradable teleporters and dispensers a while back, was wondering when they were going to do that. The ability for the Spy to recharge his cloak faster also seems like a wonderful improvement. Looks like I'll be playing TF2 again soon then:D

I'm downloading the update right now ;)
I can't wait to see the new changes in game
BTW the next pack will me scout ;), I'm happy to see they didn't chose spy, as a spy myself I wouldn't like to see a teamfull of spies leeching my fun at backstabbing

I just played after the update, it was hard to find updated servers, but after a while I've found a few.
Ok:
The tp and dispenser upgrade kick ass, dispenser is as resistant to sappers as a turret and gives 60 ammo each time. TP on lvl 3 take 2-3 seconds to recharge->bad news for the defense on first part of Goldrus.
Changes in Goldrush: one huge change that completely changes the gameplay. In the second part of the first stage the ledge on the left is now covered and only accessible from either inside or by soldiers/demos, which sucks for red since that was one of those places that really helped you to defend in the second. Summed up with lvl 3 teleporters it's almost impossible to get in control of that vital point, and even if you do manage to put a sentry up there it won't help much since you'll be fairly vulnerable to demomans and spies.

Spy cloak recharge when picking up ammo: I'm in heaven :D you can be virtually invisible all the time, if you hook up to a lvl 3 enemy dispenser ;), Spy just got himself a real upgrade, now he's great to play even if you plan to live longer than 20 secs.

So from all of the updates so far, I think I'm most pleased with this one ;) (except for the class updates)
But I hope that they'll make possible for players to erase achievements without losing the new weapons...
Yesterday I got the "FYI I Am A Medic" I thought I had done months ago O_o i was surprised...

The Spy buff is great as you get rewarded for backstabbing people by picking up their weapons. Love it. :-D

yay. its is still nicely balanced and engi actually requires some skill now as you have to manage ammo and 3 bits of equipment to level up and even blow up demo stickies with your shotgun
