Large Update for Left 4 Dead Released

Postby ad_hominem on Thu Jan 15, 2009 2:55 am

As promised, the new Left 4 Dead update has been released, with some enhancements for both performance and gameplay. These include fixing explots which let survivors miss crescendo events entirely, or jump out of danger using the minigun, as well as balancing the versus mode further by having the tank and witch spawn at the same point in a map for both teams. There are also a large number of changes specific to the different types of infected for Versus play. The changes to the general game can be found below:

  • Fixed Survivors being able to climb surfaces marked for versus infected only
  • Fixed a class of SurvivorBot bugs dealing with rescuing downed players
  • Players can no longer grab ladders while flying through the air after a Tank punch
  • Shooting near a car with an alarm that has already fired the alarm will no longer make chirping noises
  • Improved loading time
  • Fixed mini-gun physics exploit
  • Fixed propane tanks (and other physics objects) causing players to fall through elevators
  • Fixed rare achievement bug issues
  • Fixed several map exploits
  • Fixed various match making issues
  • Fixed NAT traversal issues

Check out the full changelog.

Ah that amount of updates I can only assume had them working and testing for weeks, although some I really don't agree with. But ah well. Thanks Valve.

That changelog is just so artfully done it's really impressive. They knew exactly what they're doing with it. As usual GO VALVE! <3

oh man I love this. All of it.

as I was reading the list I was creaming all over the place. In fact, I'm still creaming.

So many of these things that they fixed were just RAPING compeditive play.

Good news although some of the fixes they made to VS worried me. Some of them I have come to use to my advantage, not the exploits or anything but they made melee weaker and so on. I hope it's still the same old L4D or I'll have to re-learn ;D

I like the update... but it doesn't pull me back. I'll still play Fallout over l4d until some new content releases or some quality custom maps get released.

THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME.

Seriously, they've fixed everything that has ever annoyed me in Versus mode, which was quite a lot. Guess what I'm gonna do the next few days...

So that means still no SDK update? Argh.

They really manage to fix all serious bugs and "ah that could change" things in one update ... sounds VERY promising.

I wouldn't hold my breath for an SDK release. At no time has valve really said they were WORKING on a sdk update, so I wouldn't start thinking about l4d maps too much until some form of confirmation hits our desks.

Well I saw a video a couple of days back, and some guy from valve said that community content was great and I dont know his exact words but it looked like he was telling a SDK for l4d will be available
