The Future of Team Fortress 2

Postby Mess on Wed Jan 21, 2009 2:02 pm

The Escapist has interviewed Robin Walker, and he revealed several exciting tidbits of information regarding the future of the game. Most areas were mentioned, but most notable details include the Scout class update, a new game mode, a new character, and tweaks for spies/engineers.

Among other large-scale issues on the agenda, Walker says the Spy's disguise has nearly reached the end of its lifetime. Over time, average players have become much better at detecting and dispatching disguised Spies, making the ability pretty useless for all but the sneakiest of players.
Additionally, Walker feels the Engineer's sentry guns have become "too binary." They're highly lethal to some players and wholly ineffective against others. Sentry guns are also easily dispatched by skilled players, leaving Engineers with little recourse. Keeping a delicate balance is important, as is adjusting problems that arise from the way players utilize the different abilities of each class in the game.

For a load more fascinating information, it highly recommended you check out the entire interview.

Very interesting read.

A new character... That would be the most epic thing...

it would be pretty cool yeah,

But I'd be equally happy with some revamps of existing classes. So do whatever valve, just keep making it good.

Yay, a new map type!

I hope its kinda like an old wild-west style map where a flame is burning along a line of black powder until it reaches a cave filled with explosives. I would enjoy that.

Also good to know they haven't stopped their updates.

On second thought, the new class should be Obama, that would be awesome, and even better if they got Obama to do some voice work.

How about a Hot Potato game mode? One player starts off with a bomb, and they have to get close enough to a player on the opposite team (without dying) to attach the bomb to them without it blowing up. If the bomb explodes and kills someone on Red, for instance, Blu would get a point.
i had fun once, and it was awful.

I bet the new class will be a cook.

I'm really excited though, this will most definitely get me back into TF2 again.
