2008 Mod Of The Year Awards: Source Round-up

Postby ad_hominem on Wed Mar 04, 2009 2:11 pm

Seeing as it's been something of a slow news week, it seemed like an opportune time to show what the Mod DB editors and community think of the current crop of Source mods (and a couple of Half-Life mods, as it turns out), through the annual Mod Of The Year Awards.

Editor's Choice Nominations

Editor's Choice Winners

Player's Choice Upcoming Mod of the Year

Player's Choice Mod of the Year

An impressive showing by any account, although it's slightly disappointing that given the domination the Source engine had over the top ten Mod of the Year choices, it wasn't a Source mod that made it to number one. Still, there's always next year!

Quite a few nominated mods with Interlopers members working/leading it :) always nice to see that!
A bit strange that Black Mesa isn't in the best upcoming mod of the year since everyone's dying to play it...

I think Black Mesa wasn't included due to it having won beforehand. Anyway, I'm really glad that Project Reality won it's a hell of a good mod if your into realistic shooters.

thanks to everyone who voted for HL2:Wars, getting #10 released mod of the year for our alpha proof of concept builds sure felt good (and bodes well for the year when we get a real full beta release out... hopefully 2009).

let's also all give ourselves a nice pat on the back for being part of the most dominant/thriving modding community (Source) on the planet!

I'm a surprised Jailbreak didn't make it in the top 10 seeing as there has been so many great updates for that mod.

I think Jailbreak has gotten quite a bit more coverage here than on other websites, because we have members of the team floating around the place. I'd agree that it deserved to be in the top 10 though.

I'm very dissapointed with the current choice of mods. I actually thought there'd be other mods in a few categories. But it's just me being picky.

How in the world anyone thought Portal: Prelude should be on that list needs to have their head examined with an old, rusted hacksaw.

Oh well.

Thanks guys! I was a little disappointed too, but that just sounds whiney... so hopefully we'll get lots of happy players to make up for it when we finally release 0.5!

And we certainly do get more coverage here than anywhere else!

I think I felt bad for Neo Tokyo and Zombie Panic the most (and therefore Tatsur0), being pipped to the post on both major awards :(

At least we witnessed a huge uproar for support for NeoTokyo in light of the loss. That was kinda nice to see so much support shown for the mod.

Wills,
Really appreciate that :) But we're all happy with the results. Like Korge said there was a lot of support for Neotokyo and that was very uplifting and Project Reality did do an excellent job sticking by their mod and community even after releasing 3 years ago. Thanks for the support guys :D
