More L4D blog goodness

Postby Blink on Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:20 am

Another tasty update from the L4D blog that covers the upcoming survival mode:

Survival Mode draws on the planning and communication aspects of a successful Finale or Crescendo event, while taking it to another level. It rapidly hits a fever pitch that only a well coordinated team will be able to successfully survive. Everything from simply covering a reviving teammate, to making every shot count to minimize reloads becomes crucial in Survival Mode.

It also mentions more than once that we'll be seeing it next week. Head over and read the full post for yourself.

As I understand it, the survival mode seems to be a lot like a mechanical bull ride. There is really no way to win the level. The success is measured by how long your team can stay on the bull so to speak. As the level progresses the spawn frequency of infected keeps increasing until the survivors cannot hold them off any longer. Should be interesting to see how far players can push the envelope in survival. This should yield some amazing youtube in game videos.

Hell yeah.

I don't really see how we will be able to survive through more than 1 (ok, maybe 2) tanks.

Yes! This is more like it. I just hope there's no closets.

I doubt they'll use different skill levels, probably be a single balanced skill like in versus.

One thing about this that isn't awesome... You can't win.

I find that amazingly frusterating that no matter hwo long you live or how well you do, you die. That's it. Eventually you get 23 tanks, 6 hunters, 45 mobs, 30 boomers, and 35 smokers. Because no matter how well you did or how long you lived, you will die.

I think it should be an extremly long time (Say 15-20 minutes) and then maybe start one huge never ending mass of infected. When that happens, the escape vehicle or pathway should arrive. That simple.

It really sucks there's no way to "Win" so to speak. :(

Everything else sounds great though.

See then? You can't win at all, and that makes me sad...

I prefer at least some sort of light at the end of the tunnel. And no, scoring higher for surviving the longest doesn't count.

Why wouldn't it support a timer that ends the game after a certain time?
