Gas station was INTENSE!

wanted to just see the new gammemode, maybe play for 30 mins.

Ended up playing for 4 hours.

This plus Zeno Clash will definitely tide me over to the sdk which I now know will be released SHORTLY after the survival mode.

They better not mean shortly in "valve time"

Huge disappointment. Survival mode = extended finale, and the "new" versus maps are basicly 'playerclips in dodgy places' versions of the campaing maps just like the older 2. And all that took so damn long.

Yeah, the survival maps do seem a little "shat out at the last minute" as a friend said, the barricades are sometimes ridiculous. But once the SDK comes out, I think we'll see lots of new and better maps for campaigns, versus, and survival. I think the reason it took so long is that they worked on the gamemode a lot, and put the maps on a lower priority. Looking at this recent update, I think of it as a sort of "gateway update" that will really leak into the next update with the SDK.

im worried about
Highlight to read:
Orange maps. l4d's style really does play a part in its gameplay

Please valve, if you see this post, get the hell off interlopers and get working on the SDK update.

Latest L4D update has got rid of some of the exploits in the Survival maps - not a clue what they were.

I also have been the victim of the dodgy playerclips. How the hell can you plan an attack if you don't if you will run into an invisible wall or not?

I've been playing the new survival mode with some buddies and we're enjoying it very much.

Hopefully the SDK is real close now.

HERE THEY COME!

Personally, I am really tired of this game. Don't get me wrong, when it was first released it was great fun for months and months. But then it got extremely stale and repetitive for me, and just wore out. This new update really has done nothing for me. The new map, whilst sorta cool, is just meh, along with the reworked things. I feel no real fun that sticks when playing any more. It all just feels boring now.

I myself am hoping the SDK comes out soon. Not because I want to map for L4D, but just because then we'll be able to play something new for once, instead of the same damn maps reworked 3 times. I understand what Valve is doing, don't get me wrong, and by creating this new game mode it opens up a whole other door of map and gameplay possibilities, but God damn if it isn't getting stale.

I personally don't care if there are orange maps, or orange campaigns. I'll be happy with just new things really. I know some people will have beautiful creations and above-par campaigns and such, and then there will be the cheaply made dev-textured ones. All in all, I don't mind dev maps, a lot of them tend to be more fun than some of the super detailed ones. I'll just be happy to play something new again instead of "Oh cool! I can play No Mercy in THREE different ways now, except they all feel the same!".

That's just me. I can totally see how people can absolutely love this update, and it sounds like an awesome concept, but after playing it and messing with it, this update does not please me and I really can't say I enjoyed it.

Sorry Valve. The winner this quarter in the Source department is going to have to be Zeno Clash for me.

Excuse me sir, but I believe that you just said Zeno Clash was better then Left 4 Dead.

Take your medicine, and post after it's taken effect.

I agree with him, but he didn't say it's better then L4D, he said it's better then the update. Perhaps you should get your reading glasses out?

Anybody know how zenoclash got their models/npc's to interact so tightly with one-another? Like, first-person grabbing somebody, spinning them around, all with no polys crossing :S

I'm guessing (DERAIL ALERT!!) that they just coded NPC's to align themselves with the player, then start up a scriped sequence or something like it for the fighting... Then with the ragdolls, my guess is taking they're pose and blending it to the first frame of the animation for standing up, much like you blend anims in Faceposer!
But yea, vcool, I agree. You have to animate MUCH more thoroughly (probably extensive mocap and tweaking,) to get a first-person game with 'body awareness' to work out.
