First release of DuctTape

Postby Blink on Sun May 03, 2009 7:10 pm

Some of you may already know about DuctTape, which has been worked on by a couple of resident 'lopers. It's a handy little tool that aims to make your modding life easier and it's just reached the first Alpha release:

The intent of DuctTape is to unify and automate creation of scripts, command line utilities, and compiling. For example, DuctTape can create and compile an SMD into a MDL in a matter of a few clicks. It also contains a soundscape editor.

We introduce a new concept of scripted texture builds - which are authored graphically, of course. Rather than having to go into VTFEdit everytime you change your source image, DuctTape will detect that the source has changed and rebuild the VTFs that are based upon it. This type of functionality is ubiquitous, actually. If you change a map, SMD, QC, etc DuctTape will rebuild your outdated game content with the click of a button (The build mod button in the toolbar).

You can grab a copy and stay updated via their brand new website.

I like the new website. I haven't used the program much though, I'll be testing it out soon though.

It's a shame that I never got around to actually testing it. I wanted to test it when I still didn't have internet 'cause I spent my time mostly modelling then. Then I realised I didn't have all the required frameworks and I needed internet to get them. Then, after a month I got internet but many more beta-testers appeared so I couldn't really help with anything anymore since most of the bugs would be uncovered anyways.

Sorry guys. :(

Good job on a release guys!

Now for some bad news. :(

D:\Steam\steamapps\myname\team fortress 2\tf\voice_ban.dt
Does this file exist? If it does, delete it. If it doesn't, then something is messed up hardcore - cause your computer is telling DuctTape that it does.

So I delete it but then...

The procedure entry point ThreadInterlockedExchange could not be located in the dynamic link library tier0.dll

Running Windows 7 with administrative rights and I'm running the program as an admin too. I really wanted to see this working too. :'(

Aww... you guys are too kind. Don't be so modest z@c ;-)

DuctTape's only in Alpha as it is, and there is plenty of development to be done and plenty of bugs left to find. So don't hesitate to try it out and then flood the bug tracker with crash dumps. The tracker's on the SourceForge page.

It certainly has potential, but I can't get it to launch past the mod/app selection screen. Tells me everything I have has a voice_ban.dt file, and then crashes. Hopefully that can be sorted out soon, I'm really excited to try out the environment map texture feature.

Frickin' sweet.

*RRMMM* Uh... well...

You will be able to, lol. But it isn't implemented yet. Sry. (I see you removed the post already!)

ALSO EVERYBODY PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Don't submit bug reports, feature requests, or support requests here! There is a system, SourceForge Tracker, specially for these type of things. That way we can keep track of, and properly handle your query.

P.S. We accept donations  (no really, here, lol)

YIKES! It seems there is a new problem - causing all this voice_ban.dt stuff. I will have it fixed shortly!

Any workaround?
I'm still using an old SVN checkout (really old), so I might not want to upgrade until this version works properly.

Alright, there is a new installer on the sourceforge site - BUT DON'T CLICK THE DOWNLOAD LINKS ON THE ducttape.sourceforge.net PAGES. Go into the sourceforge site and click download - you want version 0.14a

I can't change the site right now... Only blink has write permissions!
