Alien Swarm: Infested Announced

As mentioned in last week's Steam update, the former UT modification Alien Swarm is making its way to the Source engine. Placing the players in a cooperative adventure with a commanding player, all utilizing an overhead view. Alien Swarm brings a great blend between action and strategy.



It is said Alien Swarm: Infested will be released as a free modification and as a retail game. The retail version however will include many extras.

Exactly, the game is not like NS at all, really.

You can't play as a first person marine (I believe), you can't play as an Alien either... It's very different in terms of gameplay. However, the setting is somewhat alike though.

It looks like a rip off of NS to me. Even the picture of the alien at the top looks like the Shade.

This game is nothing like NS, its a 3rd person shooter like diablo, you run around in a team blasting the crap outa aliens.

Just because it has similar settings dsnt mean its a rip or anything, both games play completely different.

How about everyone just waits until they play the source version or even try the ut2k4 version. Befor they say some mod ripped of another.

While this kind of game might appeal to Starcraft fans, or any other RTS fans... I am curious why one developed a top-down game on a First-Person Shooter platform. I would think this would be better suited as a CNC: Generals conversion, one of the original GTA games, or something like that. Yes, it looks nice, and yes I'm sure it plays well-- but without the first person element, I think they're soliciting the wrong crowd here. I'd take NS over this any day just becasue (like in AvP) I can blow things up, up close and personal.

Btw, while it looks good and everything... It's a waste of the UT2004 engine to power something that looks small and has substandard graphics. (I get that the graphics are NOT subpar, but the top-down view limits the originality and details that could be incorperated.

Once again-- it looks nice, but I'll take NS over it any day.

Woops my mistake. I thought it was for source. While it still looks a lot like NS it is good to see that UT fans will be getting their own RTS/shooter game... no matter how much it looks like NS
