Action Half-Life 2 Released

Postby ad_hominem on Mon Jun 01, 2009 7:58 am

Great news for fans of the classic Half-Life mod Action Half-Life - the team have been quietly working away at a source sequel and have gotten to a stage where they feel they can release version 1.0 of Action Half-Life 2:

Yes.. it's release day... after several months of work we've finally reached our first release! AHL2 In Your Face! Its been a lot of work and much effort has gone in from all involved... so well done guys! We made it!

Since it's a first release, beta, etcetera etcetera, yada yada, you know this talk: It's by no means done, polished or complete. It's rough around the edges and in various other places, but so far we've been having a massive blast playing it, and we hope you will too.

Yes! AHL is one of my favorite mods. Though, that first link is broken.

This is a great mod, I have only a few very fixable gripes with it:
1. It's too easy to run out of ammo, especially with the sub machine gun
2. The sawn-off shotgun takes way too long to reload, and has to reload after every shot
3. The weapon models are quite bad, well, a few are good, the shotgun especially is bad.
4. Last weapon used key has been replaced, and turned into the stunt key, thats fine, but confusing at first
5. You die fairly quickly, the spawnpoints dont have a lot of safety to them
6. The servers that have people on them are faaaaar away, and I usually lose connection.

That's about it, keep working on the maps, make some new models, and it'll be great.
Oh yeah, was Kliener modeled after Dick Masterson (Men are Better then Women)? He looks just like him, and his name in the game is Dick, if so, thats awesome. Right now I'm ok with the character models, just as long as their placeholders.

@1:: well we released without any action specific maps, so until some peeps release some decent maps (some are already out there) we can't really do much about it.
@2:: alternative fire fires only one chamber;
@3:: yeah they are reskinned ahl1 models; we did have a new beretta, but it didn't really fit the other low poly models and lacked akimbo reload anims, so we didn't include it.
@4:: blame sykes, it is his config, but you can configure your keys anyway........
@5:: see my reply for 1;
@6:: nothing we can do about it; most servers are in chicago, austin, dutch land (^^;) and some pop up here and there.

Yes!!!

Besides oldschool FirearmsMod, Action Halflife was one of the only HL1 mods I ever throughly enjoyed and played often! I'll have to hit up their site today when I get home from work and give it a download.

Since team members seem to poke their head into this thread, I'll ask this here: Is AHL2 Steamworks compatable?

Where would be the best place to report bugs? I loved AHL and I'd love to see AHL2 reach its full potential.

Official forum; we're still in the process of deciding what bug tracker we're going to use; For your own mental safeness I advice the search button;

I have to admit, that none of us looked into the Steamworks business, but we're not against it; Fact is that we have a lot of work before us and I don't think that we are ready to go steamworks yet;
See this version as the first one of many to follow;
