Firearms Source Update

Postby Blink on Mon Jun 08, 2009 2:03 pm

The Firearms team have recently posted some new eye-catching media for everyone to devour:

I introduce to you the new Red Force player model. Last year, at the team leadership's request, Schmung created a new red player model to replace the CSS stub you've been seeing us use up until tonight. Shinobi has weighted the model to a new set of animations done by Christian Oelund, a former FA team member, and the skin you see has been done by none other than the very talented StealthSilver. Those "new" animations include not just prone, which is pictured, but brand-new animations for every other player action in the game: Running, jumping, shooting, reloading, and crouching. Nothing is used or taken from Valve, and is all original work by the FAS team.

Looks great but every time I hear about this I have to think of how they took the name without the approval of the original mod creators. Might be a tiny issue, but it kind of sours it.

I think you are referring to the other Firearms game rendered in the Source Engine. The FAS team actually contains many of the original FA developers.

Everything but the face looks nice. Somehow the face could have been so much better. Maybe it's just the texture that needs work, but the face looks cartoony. To me, at least.

By the way, if there are any environment artists, FA:S is looking for some. So either reply here, pm me, or email me at dyspatch@firearms-source.com.

There's something odd about his arms. They look tiny.

Hmm, now that you mention it, they do look kinda not long enough. At least they do in the render, though in game they look better and you don't really notice it.

Tiny indeed! Hope they haven't gone and rigged and animated already, because there are some major proportional issues going on there. Having arms down the sides, the palms should touch middle of the thigh.

Otherwise some very decent work, although the face on the 2nd screenshot looks a bit mannequin dead.

Same here, but not just the name comes to mind.

Anyway, models and maps are looking excellent, as always.
