DuctTape 0.17a Release

Postby Blink on Wed Sep 23, 2009 6:56 am

The wonderfully useful DuctTape has just had an update to version 0.17a:

Got several bug fixes, and some new features. There is now a material editor, which I JUST realized it still says in the "new" dialog that it's not implemented, but click it anyway, it's there! There are also new tools in the right click menus of the file view:

o Make a VTF and VMT for models
o Make a VTF and VMT for brushes
o Several SMD manipulation tools

Well worth popping over and picking up a copy

I'll have to give it a try. I did try making a model through the older version but I didn't really like the setup. I couldn't do anything more than add $staticprop. :\

Being under GNU, is the source code available? Maybe not to the public, but at for least people interested in how the mechanics work?
We are not but a parade of crystalline machines, performing as programmed.

Yes, the complete source is available online. That's part of the GPL. You can get info via the help menu in ducttape. http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/ducttape The CVS repository is the place to look, and if you get a program like Tortoise CVS you can DL the whole source pretty easily. If you are interested in contributing, please let me know. The code base is pretty massive and uses some latest technologies too.

Does DuctTape support Left 4 Dead?

I couldn't see it listed in the "Select Configuration" box
and cant find any information regarding if it is or is not supported.

Ah, I see. L4D isn't kept in the steamapps/username folder like the other games. The gameinfo.txt is in common/left 4 dead/left4dead. I'll try and add that into the next version.

Btw, I selected an OB profile, not L4d.

I suppose if you made an entry for it in the gameconfig.txt under the orangebox SDK and then copied filesystem_steam.dll, and a couple others (can't remember off the top of my head, but DuctTape'll tell you prolly) it might work. The only reason it doesn't is cuz ducttape doesn't know to look in there. I don't think there's really a new feature set or anything. Actually, if you make a new OB mod, and set the AppID to 500 (I'm pretty sure that's for L4D which includes HL2 and CS:S content right?) Do the search for mods in DuctTape and choose the OB engine. It should mount all the content. It won't use the L4D tools though, like hammer and studiomdl and such.

that sounds like alot of screwing around, im quite the lazy :P

I can keep myself busy until the next release of duct tape is out

but honestly.. am i the first person to try to use it with left 4 dead? i would have thought someone would have picked that up ages ago

I don't think people use it that much. And if they do, it's for really simple stuff.

Figured out the workaround for the .dll problem. Run the OB hammer. When you run the L4D one it changes a registry key that DT relies on. Running the old hammer changes it back.

Making a proper fix is going to take at least a few more days.
